DeCori Birmingham
DeCori Birmingham (born November 22, 1982) is a former professional gridiron football running back. He was signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football at Arkansas. Birmingham was also a member of the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, Frankfurt Galaxy, Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers. On March 25, 2010, Birmingham signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. On June 9, 2010, Birmingham retired from professional football. DeCori is best known for his part in the "Miracle on Markham". During his sophomore season with the Arkansas Razorbacks in 2002, Arkansas trailed the LSU Tigers 20–14 with less than a minute remaining. The winner of this regular-season finale would win the SEC West Division championship, and earn the right to play in the 2002 SEC Championship Game. A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. The primary roles of a running back are to receive American football plays#Offensive terminology, handoffs from the quarterback to Rush (American football)#Offense, rush the ball, to line up as a receiver to catch the ball, and Blocking (American football), block. There are usually one or two running backs on the field for a given play, depending on the offensive formation. 2003 Independence Bowl
The 2003 Independence Bowl was a post-season college football bowl game between the Missouri Tigers and the Arkansas Razorbacks on December 31, 2003, at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana. Missouri was making their first bowl appearance since 1998. This was Missouri's first bowl game under Head Coach Gary Pinkel. Arkansas, on the other hand, made their sixth straight bowl appearance, but had lost the last three. Arkansas defeated Missouri 27–14, winning their first bowl game since the 2000 Cotton Bowl. It was Arkansas' first victory in the Independence Bowl. Missouri fell to (8–5) on the season, while Arkansas improved to (9–4). This was the Hogs second bowl victory under head coach Houston Nutt. The Texas Longhorns are the athletic teams representing the University of Texas at Austin.
