Dayton Ducks
The Dayton Ducks were a minor league baseball team that played in the Central League in 1932 and then the Middle Atlantic League from 1933–1942. The team took its name from their owner and field manager, former St. Louis Cardinals player Ducky Holmes. They were affiliated with the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1934–35, 1938–1942 and the Chicago White Sox in 1937. The team was briefly known as the Dayton Wings from 1939–1940, when Holmes was not involved with the club. The ballparks The team played at North Side Field and then Hudson Field. North side field was located at Leo Street and Troy Pike. Hudson Field was located at West Third Street and was near the Soldiers Home. Middle Atlantic League
The Middle Atlantic League (or Mid-Atlantic League) was a lower-level circuit in American minor league baseball that played during the second quarter of the 20th century. History The Middle Atlantic League played from 1925 through 1951, with the exception of three seasons (1943–45) when the loop suspended operations during World War II. The league primarily featured clubs based in the U.S. states of Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, although it had a team in Maryland and, in its final season, one in New York. Its longest-tenured team, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania - the Johnnies - existed for 19 seasons. Its final champion was the 1951 Niagara Falls Citizens. Phil Weintraub
Philip Weintraub (October 12, 1907 – June 21, 1987) was an American professional baseball first baseman and outfielder. Weintraub played for 13 minor league teams, for whom he had an aggregate batting average of .337, as well as for the New York Giants, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Philadelphia Phillies in Major League Baseball. He was primarily a reserve outfielder in the majors, though he was platooned at first base in the last few years of his career. He posted a .295 career batting average in the major leagues, and a .398 on-base percentage. In one game in 1944, Weintraub had 11 RBIs, one fewer than the major league record, and he still has as of , the third- most runs batted in ( RBIs) in a single game (11, behind Jim Bottomley and Mark Whiten) in Major League history.
