Davinder Singh Kang
Davinder Singh Kang (born 18 December 1988) is an Indian track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw event. Kang won the bronze medal at the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships with a throw of 83.29m. The javelin throw is a track and field event where the javelin, a spear about in length, is thrown. The javelin thrower gains momentum by running within a predetermined area. Javelin throwing is an event of both the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon. History The javelin throw was added to the Ancient Olympic Games as part of the pentathlon in 708 BC. It included two events, one for distance and the other for accuracy in hitting a target. The javelin was thrown with the aid of a thong ('' ankyle'' in Greek) that was wound around the middle of the shaft. Athletes held the javelin by the ''ankyle'', and when they released the shaft, the unwinding of the thong gave the javelin a spiral trajectory. Throwing javelin-like poles into targets was revived in Germany and Sweden in the early 1870s. History The competition courted controversy with the IAAF when political in-fighting arose after Israel was excluded from participation in 1977. The 2017 Asian Athletics Championships was the 22nd edition of the Asian Athletics Championships. It was held from 6 to 9 July 2017 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India. Bhubaneswar was the third Indian city to host Asian Championships. Around 560 athletes from 41 countries attended the event. The Championships were originally scheduled to be held at Ranchi, Jharkhand. After Ranchi's inability to host this event, Bhubaneswar was selected as the venue for this event. 2017 World Championships In Athletics – Men's Javelin Throw
The men's javelin throw at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics is being held at the Olympic Stadium on 10 and 12 August. Summary Thirteen athletes made the automatic qualifying mark to get into the final. Five throws into the first round, Johannes Vetter (GER) threw the winner, . At the end of the round, his teammate Thomas Röhler threw 87.08 m to move into second place. On the second throw of the second round, Jakub Vadlejch (CZE) threw tantalizingly close to Vetter with an 89.73 m. Three throws later, Vetter's second throw even bettered that, 89.78 m. At the end of round, Röhler improved to 88.26 m Through the next three rounds, nobody could surpass that third best throw, not even the leaders, though Petr Frydrych (CZE) threw 87.93 m twice.
