David Duffield Wood
David Duffle Wood (March 2, 1838 — March 25, 1910), sometimes written as David Duffield Wood or David Duffel Wood, was an American composer, educator, and musician. He was blind from early childhood. Wood was the organist and choir master at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church (Philadelphia), St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Philadelphia for 46 years. Early life and education David Duffle Wood was born in 1838 near Pittsburgh, one of the six sons of Jonathan Humphreys Wood and Wilhelmina Jones Wood. Through illness and accident, he lost his vision as a young child. He was five years old in 1843 when he was enrolled in the Overbrook School for the Blind, Institute for the Instruction of the Blind in Philadelphia. David Bernard Wood OBE (born 21 February 1944) is an English actor, author, composer, director, magician and producer. ''The Times'' called him "the National Children's Dramatist". In 1979, he joined Bernard Cribbins, Maurice Denham, and Jan Francis in a reading of ''The Hobbit'' for the BBC Television show '' Jackanory. Straitjacket Fits formed in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1986 and were a prominent band in the Flying Nun label's second wave of the Dunedin sound. Biography Like many of their Flying Nun stable-mates, the band hailed from the southern city of Dunedin. They formed from the ashes of The DoubleHappys, a band comprising Shayne Carter, Wayne Elsey and John Collie. The tragic accidental death of Elsey saw Carter and Collie join forces with David Wood (ex- Working With Walt) in 1986 to form Straitjacket Fits. Andrew Brough (from The Orange) signed on the following year, adding a foil in the form of a pop sensibility to Carter's more raucous songwriting. David E. Wood (July 1, 1963 – December 10, 2006) was an attorney and environmental activist. Best known for his work in the field of electronics recycling, he was executive director of the GrassRoots Recycling Network (GRRN) in Madison, Wisconsin and organizing director of the nationwide Computer TakeBack Campaign (CTBC). Wood was born in Clifton Springs, NY, to two locally known doctors. He had seven brothers and sisters. He attended Bucknell University, receiving his training in law at the University at Buffalo. After graduating from law school, he moved to Los Angeles, where he worked for the California Public Interest Research Group (CalPIRG). Later, Wood moved to Madison, Wisconsin, working first for the Center on Wisconsin Strategy (COWS), and then the GrassRoots Recycling Network. His NBA career spanned from 1988 until 1997. He played in the Continental Basketball Association with the Rockford Lightning and the Yakima Sun Kings, and also played professionally in France, Spain, and the Philippines. David John Wood (born 10 January 1965) is a former English cricketer. Wood was a left-handed batsman who bowled slow left-arm orthodox. He was born at Cuckfield, Sussex. Wood made two first-class appearances for Sussex against Surrey and Hampshire in the 1984 County Championship. Against Surrey, he scored 15 runs in Sussex's first and only innings of the match, before being dismissed by Graham Monkhouse. The match ended in a draw. Against Hampshire, Wood scored 12 runs in Sussex's first-innings, before being dismissed by Cardigan Connor, while in their second-innings he was dismissed by Nigel Cowley for 5 runs. Colonel David James Wood MBE (23 February 1923 – 12 March 2009) was the last surviving officer of the coup de main operation carried out by glider borne troops of the 2nd Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (the 52nd), on D Day, 6 June 1944, tasked with capturing Pegasus Bridge and Horsa Bridge before the main assault on the Normandy beaches began. His research area is discrete mathematics and theoretical computer science, especially structural graph theory, extremal graph theory, geometric graph theory, graph colouring, graph drawing, and combinatorial geometry. David Wood (born 1946) was Centennial Professor of Philosophy, and Joe B. Wyatt Distinguished University Professor, at Vanderbilt University. Wood has taught philosophy in Europe and the United States for over thirty years, and is the author of 16 books. In addition to teaching at Vanderbilt University, he also co-directs (with Beth Conklin) a research programme in ecology and spirituality for the Centre for the Study of Religion and Culture.
