David Wills (writer)
David Robert Wills (born 1953) is a noted translator of Jacques Derrida, including ''The Gift of Death'', ''Right of Inspection'', ''Counterpath'', and ''The Animal That Therefore I Am''. Currently, Wills is a professor of French at Brown University. To date much of Wills's own original and published work "has concentrated on literary theory, especially the work of Derrida, film theory, comparative literature" with an emphasis on how and where we think through (and with) technology and politics. As noted, Wills's writing "rethinks not only our nature before all technology but also what we understand to be technology." Wills began teaching at University at Albany, SUNY in 1998 and moved to Brown University in 2013. He has degrees from the University of Auckland, and received his doctorate from the Université de Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle. Dave Wills (sportscaster)
David Herbert Wills (March 13, 1964 – March 5, 2023) was an American sportscaster who, along with his broadcast partner Andy Freed, served as the radio voice of the Tampa Bay Rays from 2005 until his death. Wills and Freed alternated play by play and color commentator duties during Rays game broadcasts, usually trading roles every three innings. Wills signed several contract extensions with the Tampa Bay Rays Radio Network and signed another "multi-year" deal after the 2017 season. Early life Wills was born and raised in the Chicago area, where he was a "die-hard" fan of the Chicago White Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played baseball and basketball at Oak Lawn Community High School, where he also wrote for the school newspaper. He attended Elmhurst College, where he pitched on the baseball team and worked for the school's newspaper until graduating with degrees in speech communications and urban studies in 1988. Negativland
Negativland is an American experimental music band which originated in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1970s. They took their name from a Neu! track, while their record label (Seeland Records) is named after another Neu! track. The core of the band consists of Mark Hosler, David Wills (aka "The Weatherman"), Peter Conheim and Jon Leidecker (aka "Wobbly"). Negativland has released a number of albums ranging from pure sound collage to more musical expositions. These have mostly been released on their own label, Seeland Records. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, they produced several recordings for SST Records, most notably ''Escape from Noise'', ''Helter Stupid'' and '' U2''. David Wills (born October 23, 1951, in Pulaski, Tennessee) is an American country music singer-songwriter. Wills released three studio albums and charted more than twenty singles on the '' Billboard'' Hot Country Singles chart between 1975 and 1988. Two of his songs, "There's a Song on the Jukebox" and "From Barrooms to Bedrooms," reached the Top 10 in 1975. Wills was a BMI songwriter for Pride Music Group, along with Blake Mevis and Bob Moulds. David was married to Deborah Ann Smith (from Dallas, TX) who owned Alcorn Music, Inc. publishing company. David Wills (February 3, 1831 – October 25, 1894) was the principal figure in the establishment of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. As a result of his efforts, the Gettysburg Address was given by Abraham Lincoln. Wills was Lincoln's host while in Gettysburg, and the Gettysburg Address was completed in the large upstairs bedroom occupied by the President during his brief stay in the town. Biography David Wills was born in Menallen Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, the son of James Wills, a farmer. He remained on his father's farm until 13 years of age, entering Pennsylvania College (now Gettysburg College) in 1846 from which he graduated with high honors in 1851.
