David Lawrence Whitmore (born July 6, 1967 in Daingerfield, Texas) is a former American football safety in the National Football League for the New York Giants, the San Francisco 49ers, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Philadelphia Eagles. Each team is given a position in the drafting order in reverse order relative to its record in the previous year, which means that the last place team is positioned first and the Super Bowl champion is last. Safety is a position in gridiron football on the defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety and the strong safety. Their duties depend on the defensive scheme.
