David Webster (World's Strongest Man Organizer)
David Pirie Webster, OBE (Born: September 18, 1928) is a Scottish author, historian, and sports promoter currently living in Glasgow who received an OBE for his services to sport. David has also been the organizer of the Highland Games in Largs for over 50 years. Life and career David Webster was born in 1928. He completed a degree in physical education at Teachers Training College, in Aberdeen, and as a public school teacher before turning to community recreation and sports promotion work in Scotland. As an author, Webster has published hundreds of articles in a wide variety of academic and popular journals. Webster is currently the Scottish Weightlifting Chairman and served as the Scottish weightlifting national coach, as well as referee, and competitor in that sport. World Highland Games Championships
The World Highland Games Championships is a well-recognized event in both strength athletics and Highland Games. The championships were organized by David Webster, OBE of Scotland, who still conducts the World Championships. The Arnold Strongman Classic is an annual competition featuring strength athletes from all over the world, determining who is the Strongest Man in the World. Terry Todd (December 31, 1937 – July 7, 2018) was an American powerlifter, and Olympic weightlifting, Olympic weightlifter. Todd was co-founder of the H.J. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports, co-editor oIron Game History: The Journal of Physical Culture and creator and event director of the Arnold Strongman Classic. Todd also held a career as a journalist on the staff of Sports Illustrated magazine, as well as doing commentary for CBS, NBC, ESPN and National Public Radio. Education Todd was on the varsity tennis team at Travis High School (Austin, Texas), Travis High School. Pursuing a doctorate degree, he was educated at the University of Texas, Austin and began weight training after high school to make his left arm as strong as his dominant tennis arm. The World's Strongest Man is an international Strongman competition held every year. Organized by American event management company IMG, a subsidiary of Endeavor, it is broadcast in the US during summers and in the UK around the end of December each year. Powerlifting
Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. As in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, it involves the athlete attempting a maximal weight single-lift effort of a barbell loaded with weight plates. Powerlifting evolved from a sport known as "odd lifts", which followed the same three-attempt format but used a wider variety of events, akin to strongman competition. Eventually odd lifts became standardized to the current three. In competition, lifts may be performed equipped or un-equipped (typically referred to as 'classic' or 'raw' lifting in the IPF specifically).
