David Ward (university President)
David Ward (born July 8, 1938, in Manchester, England) was the president of the American Council on Education from September 2001 to September 2008. In 2011 he was appointed Interim Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he served a prior term as Chancellor from 1993 to 2001, Provost and Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs from 1989 to 2003, and Associate Dean of the Graduate School from 1980 to 1987. A leading scholar in urban geography, Ward received his B.A.(1959) and M.A.(1961) from the University of Leeds before moving to the University of Wisconsin–Madison on a Fulbright Travel Award, and earning his doctorate there in 1963. After teaching at Carleton University and the University of British Columbia, Ward returned to UW–Madison in 1966. Ward was born and raised in Manchester. David Ward King (October 27, 1857 – February 9, 1920) was an American farmer and inventor of the King road drag. His invention, which was the horse-drawn forerunner of the modern road grader, had a great influence on American life because his invention improved the widespread dirt roads of his day to the extent that they could accommodate the advent of the automobile, rural mail delivery and mail order catalogues. Kiviaq (also known as David Charles Ward; January 23, 1936 – April 24, 2016) was a Canadian Inuk lawyer, politician, and former sportsman. He was raised in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1968, he became involved in politics, being elected to Edmonton City Council. He had won the Vanier Award as one of Canada's "Five Most Outstanding Young Men," for his work as a public relations officer and recreational director for the city. He served two terms on the council as an alderman, and ran for mayor in the 1970s with an unsuccessful outcome. As a personable politician, he successfully lobbied for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Edmonton. He ran his own open-line radio show at CJCA and CJOI-FM, with interview subjects such as Muhammad Ali. David Jenkins Ward (September 17, 1871 – February 18, 1961), a Democrat, was a U.S. Congressman. Ward was born in Salisbury, Maryland, and attended the public schools. David W. Ward (born April 29, 1953) is a retired American dairy farmer, lobbyist, and Republican politician. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1993 through 2006, representing the western half of Jefferson County, and was a dairy lobbyist for Wisconsin's Cooperative Network until 2019. Biography Born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, Ward was raised on his family's dairy farm, first established at that location in 1844. He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville. After college, Ward returned to his family farm and applied some of what he had learned to the improvement of their dairy cattle herd, and the business status of their farm. David Mark Ward (born 10 February 1961 at Croydon, Surrey) is a former aggressive batsman and occasional wicket-keeper for Surrey County Cricket Club, playing from 1985 until 2004. In all first-class matches, he scored 8139 runs at an average of 38.39, with 16 centuries and a highest score of 294 not out. He scored "a remarkable 2,072 first-class runs in 1990, including seven hundreds". Nicknamed "Gnasher" for his prominent teeth, Ward was something of a cult personality as a player. David Ward CBE (3 July 1922 – 16 July 1983) was an opera singer with a bass voice. Ward was born on 3 July 1922 in Dumbarton, Scotland. During World War II he was in the Royal Navy, and trained at the Royal College of Music under Clive Carey from between 1950 and 1952. He appeared as a castaway on the BBC Radio programme ''Desert Island Discs'' on 29 May 1967, and was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1972. He sang regularly at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, including the role of Wotan in Wagner's ''Ring Cycle''. His commercial recordings are few but include Wotan's Farewell from ''Die Walküre'' with the New Philharmonia Orchestra under George Hurst, released in 1971 on Decca PFS 4205. He died on 16 July 1983 in Dunedin, New Zealand, and was later described by Opera Scotland as "one of the most important Scottish singers of recent decades". David Ward (sheriff)
David M. "Dave" Ward was the sheriff of Harney County, Oregon, from 2015 until 2020. This included during the time of the Occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in 2016. Early life Ward was born in Drain, Oregon, to Jim, the son of a military veteran, and Linda Ward. In high school, he wrestled and played football. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a combat medic. He was deployed to Somalia, as part of Operation Restore Hope, and Afghanistan. While serving as a machine gunner in Afghanistan, he also trained more than 1,500 Afghan soldiers, and created a literacy program and a bank for them. Ward left the Army in 1994 and pursued a variety of jobs ranging from ranch hand to mill worker. During this time, he served in the Oregon National Guard.
