David Trotter (academic)
Wilfred David Trotter, (born 25 July 1951) is a British academic specialising in the literature and cinema of 20th century Britain. Trotter was Quain Professor of English Language and Literature at University College London from 1991 to 2002, and then the King Edward VII Professor of English Literature at the University of Cambridge and a fellow of Gonville and Caius College Gonville and Caius College, often referred to simply as Caius ( ), is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England. Quain Professor
Quain Professor is the professorship title for certain disciplines at University College London, England. The title honours Richard Quain, who became Professor of Anatomy in 1832 at what would become University College, London. Quain left a legacy to the University to endow professorships in four subjects in 1887. He intended that the funding should recognise his brother, John Richard Quain, as well as himself. The Burhop prize for Physics, Applied Physics or Mathematics/Physics is also drawn from these funds. A fellow is a concept whose exact meaning depends on context. In learned or professional societies, it refers to a privileged member who is specially elected in recognition of their work and achievements.
