David Sutherland (baseball)
David Andrew Sutherland (born 2 May 1985) is a former Australian professional baseball player who played for the Brisbane Bandits. Nicknamed Goofy due to his tall, uncoordinated looks, he is currently the most capped Brisbane player (379) and first player in the Australian Baseball League to accumulate 200 career hits, a feat he reached 5 November 2015. Career After playing in the 2002 World Junior Baseball Championship for the Australian U18 national team, Sutherland was signed to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the age of 17. He later made his senior circuit debut at the 2003 Claxton Shield for the Queensland Rams and batted .375/.483/.500 in seven games. In 2005, he had the best year of his young career, hitting a tournament best .474/.474/.526 in five games for Queensland in the 2005 Claxton Shield and .336/.422/.453 with 44 runs and 47 RBI in 66 Pioneer League games for the Ogden Raptors. Brisbane Bandits
The Brisbane Bandits are a professional baseball team in Brisbane, Queensland that plays in the Australian Baseball League and is one of the six founding teams of the league. From the 2010/11 season till the 2012/13 season their home ballpark was the Brisbane Exhibition Ground, the ground which the old Brisbane Bandits played at for the majority of their nine-year tenure. As of the start of the 2013/14 the Bandits home ground is Holloway Field in Newmarket. In the inaugural season, Paul Gonzalez was announced as the GM, replacing Kim Jessop as the previous GM with the Queensland Rams. Ogden Raptors
The Ogden Raptors are an independent baseball team of the Pioneer League, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball (MLB) but is an MLB Partner League. They are located in Ogden, Utah and play their home games at Lindquist Field. Pitcher Ben Sheets, first baseman Prince Fielder, shortstop J. J. Hardy and third baseman Bill Hall formerly played for the Raptors. Hall of Famer Frank Robinson played for the Ogden Reds, a previous Ogden franchise in the Pioneer League. The 2019 WBSC Premier12 was an international baseball championship featuring the 12 highest-ranked national teams in the world, held by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). It was the second WBSC Premier12 event. The championship was held from November 2 to 17, 2019, in Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. The tournament served as a qualifier for baseball at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Two quota spots were allocated, with Team Mexico as the top finisher from the Americas earning one spot, and Team South Korea as the top-finishing team from the Asia/Oceania region (excluding Team Japan, which already qualified as host) earning the other.
