David Rowlands (civil Servant)
Sir David Rowlands KCB (31 May 1947 – 11 May 2014) was a British civil servant who rose to the rank of Permanent Secretary to the Department for Transport. Rowlands left the private sector to join the Department of Trade and Industry in 1974. At the DTI he was appointed private secretary to the Minister of State for Industry. He moved to the then Ministry of Transport in 1983 where he has held a number of posts with responsibilities for finance, aviation, shipping, ports and railways. Before being appointed Permanent Secretary in May 2003, he was the director general for railways, aviation, logistics, maritime and security. In this role he was central to the creation of Network Rail after Railtrack was put into administration and the delivery of public-private partnerships for the London Underground and the National Air Traffic Services. David Rowlands (Dewi Môn)
David Rowlands (Dewi Môn) (4 March 1836 – 7 January 1907) was a Welsh Congregational minister, college head and poet. Life The son of John and Margaret Rowlands, he was born on 4 March 1836 at Geufron, Rhosybol, Anglesey. Two years later, his father moved to the farm at Ty Cristion, Bodedern. After a village education he was apprenticed at thirteen, and spent some time in shops at Holyhead and Hatfield. Encouraged by the Rev. W. Griffith of Holyhead, Rowlands became an independent preacher, and in 1853 entered Bala Congregational College. He went on in 1856 to New College, London; he returned to Bala in 1857 for a year as assistant-tutor, and in 1858 became a member of the Brecon Congregational College, graduating B.A. at London University in 1860. His first pastorate was at Llanbrynmair (1861–6); he was then for four years (1866–70) minister of the English church at Welshpool, and for two (1870–2) of the English church at Carmarthen. David John Rowlands is a Welsh politician, who was a Member of the Senedd (MS) for South Wales East from 2016 to 2021. Elected as an MS for the UK Independence Party (UKIP), Rowlands joined the Brexit Party in 2019. He joined the Independent Alliance for Reform in October 2020. Biography Born in the Welsh mining town of Argoed, he was educated at Pontllanfraith Grammar School obtaining A Levels in economics and geography before studying for a degree in business studies. Rowlands joined UKIP in 1998. Formerly a UK Independence Party (UKIP) Assembly Member, Rowlands resigned to join the Brexit Party in May 2019. David Rowlands (surgeon)
Dr. David D. Rowlands, M.D., F.R.S., F.A.S. (1778–1846) was a Welsh naval surgeon, who became the Inspector of H.M. Hospital and Fleets for the Royal Navy. He had the distinction of being the Surgeon for the Royal Navy at Halifax when he treated the wounded of , including Captain Philip Broke, after the renown Capture of USS ''Chesapeake'' during the War of 1812. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society and a Fellow of the Antiquarian Society. He also supported the Governesses' Benevolent Institution in London (1844). Career Rowland was born in Llanfihangel Penbedw. On 18 July 1795, Rowlands was assigned to be a surgeon. He was the surgeon on ship Royal William before being posted to Halifax. He became Hospital Surgeon at Halifax on 11 March 1812. He was the surgeon at Halifax when the wounded arrived from the capture of by on 1 June 1813.
