David Rodgers (other)
David Michael Rodgers (born 28 February 1952 in Bristol, England) was an English footballer who played as a centre half. He made over 190 Football League appearances mainly in the 1970s. Career Rodgers was the son of Arnold Rodgers himself a former Bristol City footballer. David Rodgers played for England Schoolboys and in the youth teams at Bristol City. Alan Dicks signed Rodgers as a professional in July 1969 for Bristol City. Rodgers made his debut for Bristol City on 3 November 1970 at centre half deputising for Dickie Rooks in a League Cup 4th round replay 2–1 win over Leicester City in which Rodgers scored the opening goal for Bristol City. Bristol City reached the semi-final of the League Cup losing 1–3 to Tottenham Hotspur over two legs although Rooks had returned to the side by the time of the semi-final ties. Gary Collier (footballer)
Gary Bernard Collier (born 4 February 1955) is an English former professional footballer who played as a central defender. Active in both England and the United States, Collier made over 500 career league appearances. Career Born in Bristol, Collier played in the Football League for Bristol City and Coventry City between 1972 and 1980, making a total of 195 league appearances. In 1980, Collier moved to the United States, to play for the Portland Timbers in the North American Soccer League. In 1982, the Timbers collapsed and Collier moved as a free agent to the San Diego Sockers for the 1982-1983 Major Indoor Soccer League season. He would play two outdoor and four indoor seasons for the Sockers. In February 1987, the Sockers sold Collier's contract to the Kansas City Comets for $5,000. Julian Marshall (24 June 1836 – 21 November 1903) was an English music and print collector, tennis player and writer. Life Marshall was born in Headingley, Yorkshire, to a flax-spinning family. Faflak & Wright, p. 51 His father, John Marshall, had been a Member of Parliament (MP) for Leeds. His grandfather was industrialist John Marshall, who was also an MP. Marshall attended Harrow School in London, before joining the family business. As a young man, Marshall started collecting prints, and later, music manuscripts. He was also a music writer and contributed work to the first edition of the ''Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians''. Marshall codified the rules of real tennis in 1872. In 1873 he played an important early lawn match with William Hart Dyke and John Moyer Heathcote at Lullingstone Castle. Norman Hunter (footballer)
Norman Hunter (29 October 1943 – 17 April 2020) was an English footballer who played for Leeds United, Bristol City, Barnsley and England. He was part of the 1966 FIFA World Cup winning squad, receiving a winner's medal in 2007. He was the first winner of the PFA Players' Player of the Year award in 1974, and was included in the Football League 100 Legends. A tough tackling centre-half and defensive midfielder, he was nicknamed "Bites Yer Legs" Hunter. The nickname originated from a banner held up by Leeds United fans at the 1972 FA Cup Final against Arsenal; the banner read "Norman bites yer legs".
