David Robertson (Canadian Politician)
David Robertson (July 9, 1841 – August 8, 1912) was an Ontario physician and political figure. He was born in Esquesing Township, Halton County, Canada West in 1841, the son of Alexander Robertson, a Scottish immigrant, and Nancy Moore, a native of New England. Robertson studied at McGill College and graduated with an M.D. in 1864. He first practised medicine in Nassagaweya before moving to Milton. Robertson was a captain in the local militia and raised a company of volunteers that served during the Fenian raids. He owned a large amount of real estate, including a large farm. In 1867, he married Jennie S. Morse. Political career He served four years as mayor of Milton and eight years as treasurer for the board of education. Dave Robertson (born 19 November 1973) is a football manager and coach who was most recently the manager of League of Ireland Premier Division side Sligo Rovers until April 2017. Before this he was manager of Peterborough United. Early life and military career Robertson was born in Dagenham, London. He grew up as a West Ham United supporter, and aged six, was a mascot at a match against Preston North End, walking alongside Trevor Brooking. As a young boy, he played as a winger for Dagenham United, as well as the Barking & Dagenham District and Essex County teams. He had trials at several top clubs in London, with Chelsea being the last to take an interest. David Allan Robertson (October 17, 1880 – July 15, 1961) was an American academic who served as the 5th president of Goucher College. He was also a professor at the University of Chicago in English and drama. Early life Robertson was born on October 17, 1880, to John Robertson and Christina Mitchell, both immigrants from Scotland. He was a member of the prominent Dawson family, which was associated with McGill University. After high school, he entered the University of Chicago, graduating with Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1902. David Robertson (born 1965 in Dundee) is a Scottish former journalist and newsreader for Reporting Scotland from 2000-2008. Career Robertson's career began at Dundee radio station Radio Tay. He joined the BBC in the late 1980s, as a BBC reporter and correspondent, covering the Bosnian War from Sarajevo and reporting from the USA, Germany and Spain. David Robertson (1795–1854) was a Scottish bookseller, now known for his publication of the early ''Whistle Binkie'' anthologies. Life The son of a farmer, Robertson was born in the parish of Kippen, Perthshire. He received an education in his native district, and in 1810 was apprenticed to William Turnbull, bookseller in Trongate, Glasgow. In 1821 appeared a pseudonymous work ''Three Nights in Perthshire'' by Percy Yorke Jr., written by Robertson's friend Thomas Atkinson. The pair had made a visit to Perthshire, the historical county: they went to the Trossachs, now in the Stirling council area, as is Kippen. The younger Atkinson, a Glaswegian, at this point was working for Brash & Reid, booksellers, where he had been an apprentice. Admiral David Robertson-Macdonald, 11th of Kinlochmoidart (6 August 1817 – 16 May 1910), also known as David Robertson, was a Scottish officer in the Royal Navy. He joined the Royal Navy as a volunteer, and saw service off the Portuguese and Spanish coast, in the West Indies and in the Mediterranean. Promoted to Lieutenant in August 1841, he served in HMS ''Hazard'' in the 1842 war with China, before the ship was posted to New Zealand. Lieutenant-Colonel David Robertson Macdonald of Kinlochmoidart (1764–1845), born David Robertson, was a British Army officer linked to the history of Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon). Life He was born David Robertson on 29 September 1764, the son of the eminent Edinburgh historian and minister of Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh, William Robertson, and his wife Mary Nisbet. His brothers included William Robertson and Lord Robertson. Trained in the military, he served in the British Army linked to the East India Company and raised the first Malay Regiment in Ceylon in 1796. He served as Deputy Adjutant General of Ceylon in the late 18th century. In 1802 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
