David Roberti
David A. Roberti (born May 4, 1939) served as a Senator in the California legislature and as President pro tempore of the California State Senate from 1981 to 1993. He co-authored the Roberti-Roos Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989, Roberti-Roos gun control act. In April 1994 he was the subject of a failed recall attempt propelled by the gun lobby, in a List of special elections to the California State Senate, special election. Career In 1964–1965, Roberti was a Clerk for the District Court of Appeals. In 1965, he became a state Deputy Attorney General. After serving 28 years in the state legislature, he became Member, California Integrated Waste Management Board, serving from 1998 to 2002. ''LA Weekly'' is a free weekly alternative newspaper in Los Angeles, California. It was founded in 1978 by Jay Levin, who served as president and editor until 1991. The California State Assembly is the lower house of the California State Legislature, the upper house being the California State Senate. List Of Special Elections To The California State Senate
Special elections to the California State Senate are called by the Governor of California when a vacancy arises within the State Senate. Most special elections are conducted in two rounds. The first is an open primary and the candidate with the most votes must have a majority of the votes plus one to win the seat. If no candidate wins a majority, a second round is held with the two top candidates regardless of party. Recall elections, the process by which voters petition for the removal of an elected official, are also included.
