David Reeb
David Reeb (1952) is an Israeli-born artist. Biography David Reeb was born in Rehovot, Israel in 1952. He has shown work in Documenta X at Kassel, the Ankara, Kwangju, Havana and Berlin Biennales, "In Focus: Living History," Tate Modern, London and in various museums and galleries in the U.S., Austria, Germany, Sweden and elsewhere. He has had one-person exhibitions at the Tel Aviv Museum, the Israel Museum (together with Miki Kratsman), Haifa Museum, Umm El Fahem Gallery, Stadtische Kunsthalle, Düsseldorf, Haus Am Lutzowplatz, Berlin and various other galleries and museums. Some of his work consists of figurative paintings after photographs and video stills. While previously he used news photographers’ images, especially those of Miki Kratsman, since 2006 he has been making these paintings primarily after his own source material. Documenta X
documenta X was the tenth edition of documenta, a quinquennial contemporary art exhibition. It was held between 21 June and 28 September 1997 in Kassel, Germany. The artistic director was Catherine David. This was the first time a woman was appointed as artistic director of documenta. It is also the first time that the website of the exhibition was conceived as an artistic part of it. Catherine David chose the Swiss curator Simon Lamunière to conceive, design and curate the project. Part of documenta X was the experimental performance space and digital platform "Hybrid WorkSpace", curated by Klaus Biesenbach, Nancy Spector, and Hans-Ulrich Obrist. The space was designed by architect Eicke Becker and featured important performances, among them the famous Christoph Schlingensief performance titled "" during which several artists were arrested. Miki Kratsman
Miki Kratsman is an Israeli photographer, photojournalist and activist. Biography Miki Kratsman was born in Argentina in 1959. He immigrated to Israel with his family in 1971. He studied photography at Kiryat Ono College. His spouse is Israeli fashion designer Dorin Frankfurt. Photography career He worked as photojournalist in ''Hadashot'' newspaper until 1993, when the newspaper was closed. Kratsman joined ''Haaretz'' newspaper, where he worked until 2012. Kratsman taught at Camera Obscura College of Photography in Tel Aviv from 1997 to 1999; School for Geographic Photography of Tel Aviv from 1998 to 2006; Department of Art in Haifa University from 2002 to 2006. In 2006, Kratsman was appointed Head of the photography department in Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and chaired the department until his retirement in 2014. An academy ( Attic Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια; Koine Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of secondary or tertiary higher learning (and generally also research or honorary membership).
