David Randell
David Randell (1854 – 5 June 1912), was a Welsh solicitor and a radical Liberal Party politician. He was Member of Parliament for Gower from 1888 to 1900. Background Randell was born the second son of John Randell of Llanelly and Mary Jones. In 1880 he married Sarah George and they had two children. Career Randell qualified as a solicitor in 1878. He specialised in trade union litigation, protecting coal miners and tinplate workers on safety issues. Gower (UK Parliament Constituency)
Gower ( cy, Gŵyr) is a constituency created in 1885 and represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament by one Member of Parliament (MP). Tonia Antoniazzi of the Labour Party became its MP after winning it from a Conservative in the 2017 UK general election. Her party had previously represented the seat from 1909 until 2015. Llanelly ( cy, Llanelli) is the name of a parish and coterminous community in the principal area of Monmouthshire, within the historic boundaries of Brecknockshire, south-east Wales. It roughly covers the area of the Clydach Gorge. The population of the parish and ward at the 2011 census was 3,899. The 1900 United Kingdom general election was held between 26 September and 24 October 1900, following the dissolution of Parliament on 25 September. Also referred to as the Khaki Election (the first of several elections to bear this sobriquet), it was held at a time when it was widely believed that the Second Boer War had effectively been won (though in fact it was to continue for another two years). The Conservative Party, led by Lord Salisbury with their Liberal Unionist allies, secured a large majority of 134 seats, despite securing only 5.6% more votes than Henry Campbell-Bannerman's Liberals. This was largely owing to the Conservatives winning 163 seats that were uncontested by others. The Labour Representation Committee, later to become the Labour Party, participated in a general election for the first time. Frank Ash Yeo
Frank Ash Yeo (18 August 1832 – 4 March 1888) was a British industrialist and Liberal politician. Yeo was born at Bideford, Devon, the son of Thomas Yeo and his wife Elizabeth Woollacott. He was educated at Bideford School, and in Germany and France. He moved to Swansea where he was a colliery owner and director of the Swansea Bank and the Swansea Blast Furnace Company. In 1874 he was Mayor of Swansea, and commemorated his Mayoralty by donating the Chain of Office in 1875. In 1878 he became Chairman of Swansea Harbour Trust. He lived at Sketty Hall. In 1885, Yeo was elected as Member of Parliament for Gower and held the seat until his death three years later at the age of 55. Yeo married Sarah Cory at Cardiff in 1858. John Aeron Thomas
John Aeron Thomas (24 November 1850 – 1 February 1935), was a British Liberal Party politician and industrialist. Background He was the son of Lewis Thomas, of Panteryrod, Cardiganshire. He was educated at Rhydowen and at Milford grammar school. He married in 1880, Eleanor Lewis of Nantgwynne, Carmarthenshire. They had two sons and one daughter. Career He became a Solicitor in 1874 working for Aeron Thomas and co. of Swansea. He was also a colliery proprietor and tin-plate manufacturer. He was and Alderman of Swansea Council and Mayor of Swansea from 1897 to 1898, a Justice of the Peace and a Member of Swansea Harbour Trust.
