David R. Flores
David Romero Flores (born February 5, 1968) is a Mexican jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. Flores was born in Tijuana, Mexico. His father was a jockey and an exercise rider in Southern California. David Flores rode his first winner at Agua Caliente Racetrack in his native Mexico in 1984. He went on to win riding titles at Santa Anita Park, Del Mar Racetrack, Oak Tree Racing Association and Fairplex. His big break came in 1996 and 1997 when he rode Siphon to victories in big races. Among his notable victories were three Breeders' Cup wins aboard Tempera, Action This Day, and Singletary. Riding for Godolphin Stables, he won the UAE Derby in 2001 aboard Express Tour. In May 2007, Flores earned his 3,000th career victory by winning the Lazaro Barrera Memorial Stakes at Hollywood Park Racetrack. UAE Derby
The UAE Derby is a Group 2 flat horse race in the United Arab Emirates for three-year-old thoroughbreds run over a distance of 1,900 metres (approximately 9.5 furlongs) on dirt at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai. It takes place annually during the Dubai World Cup Night on the last Saturday in March. It was first run in 2000 and attained Group 2 status two years later. The distance of the race was increased to 2,000 metres (10 furlongs) in 2002, before reverting to 1,800 metres in 2004, and increased again to 1,900 meters in 2010. The race is open to both Northern and Southern Hemisphere three-year-olds. The UAE Derby currently offers a purse of US$2.5 million. The Los Angeles Handicap is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California during the spring racing season. It was previously run at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California), which closed in 2013. A Grade III sprint race run on dirt over a distance of six furlongs, it is open to horses aged three and older. The race was not run in 2018. The Malibu Stakes is a race for three-year-old thoroughbred horses of either gender held each December at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The race is at a distance of seven furlongs '' and is the first leg of Santa Anita Park's Strub Series. The Gamely Stakes is a Grade I American Thoroughbred horse race for fillies and mares age three and older over a distance of miles on the turf run in late May annually at Santa Anita Park, Arcadia, California. History The race was inaugurated in 1939 as the Long Beach Handicap at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California over a distance of 1 mile. Then event was dormant until 1968 when it was run on the dirt for three-year-olds and older over a distance of miles. The following year the race was conditioned for fillies and mares at the distance of 1 mile. In 1973, the distance was set at the current route of miles with a classification of Grade II. Daytona Handicap
The San Simeon Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for horses aged three years old or older over the distance of about six and one-half furlongs on the turf scheduled annually in March at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. History The event was inaugurated in 2004 as the Daytona Handicap. Due to course conditions, several runnings of the Daytona Handicap were taken off the turf and run on the dirt track. The event was upgraded to a Grade III event for 2009. In 2011 the race was renamed to the Daytona Stakes. The Turf Paradise Derby is an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually between early and mid February at Turf Paradise Race Course in Phoenix, Arizona. Arlington Million
The Arlington Million is a Grade 1 flat horse race in the United States for thoroughbred horses aged three years and upward on the turf. It was originally raced at the now-closed Arlington Park in Arlington Heights, Illinois over a distance of miles. In 2022, it will be moved to Churchill Downs. The Arlington Million is the first thoroughbred race to offer a purse of US$1,000,000. It is part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series, and the winner automatically qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Turf.
