David Porter (figure Skater)
David Porter (born July 6, 1949 in Bowmanville, Ontario) is a former Canadian ice dancer. With partner Barbara Berezowski, he won two gold medals at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships and competed at the 1976 Winter Olympics. On October 23, 2008, Porter was inducted into the Scuggog Sports Wall of Fame in Port Perry, Ontario. Currently, Porter is the president of Port Fire Pyrotechnics and Special Effects and its consumer fireworks subsidiary, Wizard Pyrotechnics. Port Perry
Port Perry is a community located in Scugog, Ontario, Canada. The town is located northeast of central Toronto and north of Oshawa and Whitby. Port Perry has a population of 9,453 as of 2016. Port Perry serves as the administrative and commercial centre for the township of Scugog. Skate Canada International
The Skate Canada International is an international, senior-level invitation-only figure skating competition organized by Skate Canada. It is the second competition of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating season. The location changes yearly. Medals are awarded in four disciplines: men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The first Skate Canada International was held in 1973. The 1987 competition in Calgary was the test event for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games. It was added to the Grand Prix series in 1995, the year the series began. It has had different title sponsors over the years. On August 30, 2006, Skate Canada announced it would be officially titled ''HomeSense Skate Canada International'' until 2010. Ice Follies
The Ice Follies, formerly known as the Shipstads & Johnson Ice Follies, is a touring ice show featuring elaborate production numbers, similar in concept to Ice Capades. It was founded in 1936 by Eddie and Roy Shipstad, and Oscar Johnson. In later years, Olympic skaters such as Donald Jackson, Barbara Berezowski, Peggy Fleming, and Janet Lynn were in the cast. Ice Follies also featured novelty acts such as Frick and Frack and Richard Dwyer, who was billed as "Mr. Debonair". The production company is now called Ice Follies and Holiday on Ice, Inc., a subsidiary of Feld Entertainment which produces the shows under the Disney on Ice and "... on Ice" titles. Barbara Berezowski
Barbara Berezowski (born September 5, 1954) is a Canadian former ice dancer. With partner David Porter, she won two gold medals at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships and competed at the 1976 Winter Olympics. From 1994 through 2008, she served as Founding Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame. She was inducted into their athlete category in 1999. Berezowski / Porter retired from amateur competition in 1976 and then performed in ice shows, including Toller Cranston's The Ice Show and later Ice Follies.
