David Ogden (politician)
David Kevin Ogden (born 1944) is a former mayor of Lower Hutt in the Wellington region of New Zealand. Biography Ogden was born in Newtown, Wellington, in 1944. He grew up in Miramar and attended Miramar North School and later Wellington High School where he was a prefect. After briefly considering architecture he studied accountancy at Victoria University. He did not graduate but became a chartered accountant working at Fletcher Construction. He later became head of finance at TV1. He is a justice of the peace. He first stood for political office in 1980 and was elected to the Lower Hutt City Council on the United Citizens ticket of then-mayor John Kennedy-Good. Re-elected in 1983, he chose not to stand again in 1986 to focus on accountancy. In 1992 he was elected to the Wellington Regional Council before failing in re-election bids in 1995 and 1998. The Hutt News
''The Hutt News'' is a community newspaper circulated in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. It is one of the earliest and longest running community newspapers in the country. History The paper was established in 1927 by Walter Harold Smith, a retired farmer. Smith felt Lower Hutt should have its own paper as its population was approaching that of neighbouring Petone (which had managed to sustain a newspaper since 1887). It was first issued in April 1927 via the patronage of the local Businessmen's Association. Prior to this the residents had access to the ''The Wellington Independent'', ''New Zealand Gazette and Wellington Spectator'' and ''Petone Chronicle''. The next year Smith was joined by brothers James and William Kerr of the ''Petone Chronicle''. They formed the Hutt Printing and Publishing Company to produce the paper.
