David Norris (21 June 1920 – 1972) was an Australian springboard diver who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics, where he finished 16th. Dave Norris (athlete)
David Stanley Norris (born 14 December 1939) is a former New Zealand athlete who specialised in the long jump and triple jump. Norris competed at five British Empire and Commonwealth Games from 1958 to 1974. At the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games he won the silver medal in the men's long jump. At the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff he had won the bronze medal in the triple jump. At the 1960 Summer Olympics he competed in both the long jump and triple jump. Norris won a total of 28 national titles and broke 11 records in jumping and hurdling events over his career. After retiring from competitive athletics in 1978 he worked as a coach and a school principal. He was chief executive of North Harbour Basketball in Auckland for a time, and helped create the Millennium Institute of Sport and Health on Auckland's North Shore. David Michael Norris (born 20 August 1972, in Eastbourne, England) is a former British international motorcycle speedway rider. Career Norris had stints with Reading Racers and Ipswich Witches, but primarily rode for the Eastbourne Eagles in the British League, Premier League, and Elite League. David Martin Norris (born 20 February 1981) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Lancaster City. Born in Stamford, he has played in the Football League for Hull City, Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth, Leeds United, Peterborough United, Yeovil Town and Blackpool. Admiral (Royal Navy), Admiral David Thomas Norris Order of the Bath, CB Order of St Michael and St George, CMG (27 October 1875 – 19 July 1937) was a British Royal Navy officer. Early life and career Norris was the son of Mr Justice Norris, a judge of the Calcutta High Court. He was educated at Clifton College, and joined HMS Prince of Wales (1860), HMS ''Britannia'' as a Naval Cadet at the age of 13, being promoted Midshipman two years later. Promoted Lieutenant in November 1896, he specialised in gunnery, and served as gunnery officer in the battleship HMS Vengeance (1899), HMS ''Vengeance'' on the China Station. David Patrick Bernard Norris (born 31 July 1944) is an Irish scholar, independent Senator and civil rights activist. Internationally, Norris is credited with having "managed, almost single-handedly, to overthrow the anti-homosexuality law which brought about the downfall of Oscar Wilde", a feat he achieved in 1988 after a fourteen-year campaign. He has also been credited with being "almost single-handedly responsible for rehabilitating James Joyce in once disapproving Irish eyes". Norris is a former university lecturer and a member of the Oireachtas, serving in Seanad Éireann since 1987. He was the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in Ireland. David Owen Norris, (born 1953) is a British pianist, composer, academic, and broadcaster. Early life Norris was born in 1953 in Long Buckby in Northamptonshire, England, later attending Daventry Grammar School. He took lessons locally from composer Trevor Hold before going on to study music at Keble College, Oxford where he was organ scholar; he is now an Honorary Fellow of the college.
