David Nathan Merrill
David Nathan Merrill (born 1943) is an American retired diplomat who served as the ambassador of the United States to Bangladesh. Early life Merrill was born in 1943. He earned a B.A. from Brandeis University, before completing his master's degree in international affairs from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He completed a master's degree in public affairs in Asian economic cevelopment at the John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University. His wife is Irrum Mehmood Merrill. Career Merrill served as the USAID Mission Director in Indonesia from 1986 to 1989. In 1992 he was made a career minister in USAID, the highest position in the organization. He served as the USAID Representative to Burma. He served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the People's Republic of Bangladesh. William Bryant Milam (born July 24, 1936) is an American diplomat, and is Senior Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C. Life Born in Bisbee, Arizona, Milam grew up in Sacramento, California and currently resides in Washington, D.C.. He received an A.B. from Stanford University and an M.A. in economics from the University of Michigan. Foreign service career Milam was a career diplomat. He retired from the United States Foreign Service at the end of July 2001 but was recalled after September 11, and spent nine months helping to set up the multilateral mechanism for the reconstruction of Afghanistan. He was also recalled to serve as interim ''Charge d'Affairs'' at the United States Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, prior to the re-establishment of a permanent American ambassadorial post to Libya. Similar versions of the same award exist for the former U.S. Information Agency, Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, and USAID.
