David Myers is a former commander and 33-year veteran of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. He ran in the 2018 primary election to become the San Diego County Sheriff against his boss and 9-year-incumbent, Bill Gore. He is currently the highest-ranking openly gay employee in the department, and would have been the first openly gay San Diego County Sheriff if elected. He lost on June 5, 2018, with 43.4% of the vote. He retired from the department after his defeat. Following Gore's retirement, Myers announced he would run again for the Sheriff's position. David Willoughby Myers (1906 – March 5, 1997) was an American football player. He was one of the few black players in professional American football prior to World War II. Early years Myers was born in 1906 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the son of Willoughby Owen Myers and Isabelle Letitia Myers. He attended Stuyvesant High School in New York City. At Stuyvesant, he starred in football and basketball, won honors as a student, and served as president of the student council. NYU He played college football for the NYU Violets from 1926 to 1929. A former minor league infielder, he later was a minor league manager and coach, and a coach with the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball (MLB). Biography Myers graduated from William Penn Senior High School in York, Pennsylvania, where he was a two-sport standout in baseball and basketball. Photographer Myers was born on May 8, 1914, in Auburn, New York. The Aces was one of the earliest and most influential of the electric Chicago blues bands in the 1950s, led by the guitarist brothers Louis and Dave Myers, natives of Byhalia, Mississippi. Career The Myers brothers originally performed as the Little Boys. With the addition of harmonica player Junior Wells, they became the Three Deuces and then the Three Aces. With the enlistment of the drummer Fred Below in 1950, they became the Four Aces and finally the Aces.
