David Raymond Mehan is an Australian politician who was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the member for The Entrance for the Labor Party at the 2015 New South Wales state election. The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. Both the Assembly and Council sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The Assembly has 93 members, elected by single-member constituency, which are commonly known as seats. Voting is by the optional preferential system. The Division of Dobell is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. Dobell is a NSW Central Coast electorate with large populations of both retirees and young families fleeing Sydney's expensive real estate. The electorate includes the northern suburbs of Gosford, Terrigal, The Entrance, Bateau Bay, Berkeley Vale, Toukley, Budgewoi and Wyong. The current MP is Emma McBride, a member of the Australian Labor Party. She has served since 2016. History The Division of Dobell was created in 1984 and is named in honour of Sir William Dobell, the painter. Dobell was originally a fairly safe seat for the Australian Labor Party, but grew increasingly marginal from 1996 onward. The seat was ultimately won by the Liberal Party in the 2001 election. The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is the independent federal agency in charge of organising, conducting and supervising federal Australian elections, by-elections and referendums. Responsibilities The AEC's main responsibility is to conduct federal elections, by-elections and referendums. 2011 New South Wales State Election
Elections to the 55th Parliament of New South Wales were held on Saturday, 26 March 2011. The 16-year-incumbent Labor Party government led by Premier Kristina Keneally was defeated in a landslide by the Liberal–National Coalition opposition led by Barry O'Farrell. Labor suffered a two-party swing of 16.4 points, the largest against a sitting government at any level in Australia since World War II. From 48 seats at dissolution, Labor was knocked down to 20 seats—the worst defeat of a sitting government in New South Wales history, and one of the worst of a state government in Australia since federation. The Coalition picked up a 34-seat swing to win a strong majority, with 69 seats–the largest majority government, in terms of percentage of seats controlled, in NSW history. Kenneth (Ken) Vincent Ticehurst (born 22 January 1945) is a former Australian politician, and was a member of the Australian House of Representatives from November 2001 to 2007, representing the Division of Dobell in New South Wales for the Liberal Party of Australia. Biography Ticehurst has a qualification in electrical engineering. He worked as a manager in marketing and sales, technical and manufacturing and as a managing director before entering politics.
