David Maxwell (academic)
David Maxwell (born December 2, 1944, New York City) served as the 12th president of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa from 1999 until 2015. He is the son of jazz trumpeter Jimmy Maxwell. Biography David Maxwell served as president of Drake University from May 1999 through June, 2015, and held a faculty appointment as Professor of Literature. He was awarded the title of President emeritus by the Drake Board of Trustees upon his retirement. He was director of the National Foreign Language Center in Washington DC from 1993 to 1999, after serving as president of Whitman College from 1989 to 1993. Dr. Maxwell was at Tufts University from 1971 to 1989 as a faculty member in Russian language and literature (chairing both the Program in Russian and the Soviet & East European Area Program), and served as Dean of Undergraduate Studies from 1981-89. David James Maxwell (born 8 December 1963) is a British historian and academic, specialising in the missionary movement and Christianity in Africa. He is the Dixie Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Cambridge and professorial fellow of Emmanuel College. David Maxwell (March 10, 1943 – February 13, 2015) was an American blues pianist, songwriter, and singer. Over his lengthy career, Maxwell variously worked with Louisiana Red, Muddy Waters, Skip James, Bonnie Raitt, John Lee Hooker, James Cotton, Levon Helm, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Rogers, Charlie Musselwhite, Johnny Adams, Ronnie Earl, Freddie King and Hubert Sumlin. He also released a number of albums under his own name. Maxwell was nominated for a Blues Music Award in 2015 in the category Pinetop Perkins Piano Player, which was ultimately won by Marcia Ball. David Lindsay Maxwell (born 8 April 1951, Nairn, Scotland) is a British rower who competed in the 1972 Summer Olympics and in the 1976 Summer Olympics. Rowing career In 1968 he rowed in the Eton College eight that won the silver medal in the FISA World Youth Championships in Amsterdam. In 1969 he rowed in the Eton College coxless four that won the Visitors' Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta and then won the silver medal in the FISA World Youth Championships in Naples He rowed in the winning Cambridge Boat Race crews in both 1971 and 1972. Also during 1972 he won the coxed pairs title with Michael Hart and Alan Inns, at the 1972 National Rowing Championships.
