David Mathews House
The David Mathews House, also known as the State Line House, is a historic house straddling the state line on New York State Route 67 and Vermont Route 67 in Hoosick, New York and Shaftsbury, Vermont. Built about 1800, it is an imposing brick example of Federal architecture. The building is the subject of a number of tales, some of dubious authenticity. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Description and history The Mathews House stands on the north side of NY/VT Route 67, just west of State Line Road in southwestern Shaftsbury and northeast of Walloomsac, New York. The house is a three-story, five bay wide, brick Federal style dwelling with a gable roof. It features pattern brick bonding, laid in a modified Flemish pattern, and a full Doric order frieze and cornice. Vermont Route 67
Vermont Route 67 (VT 67) is a east–west state highway in Bennington County, Vermont, United States. It runs from a continuation of New York State Route 67 at the New York state line in Shaftsbury to VT 7A farther east in the town. VT 67 also passes through the village of North Bennington. Route description VT 67 starts at the New York state line as an eastward continuation of New York State Route 67. It curves twice, intersecting with White Creek Road, a continuation of Washington County, New York, County Route 68. In North Bennington, VT 67 meets the northern terminus of VT 67A. As it does so, it curves straight north, with a secondary street (Houghton Street) leading to Lake Paran. After the intersection with Hawks Avenue, it takes a northeasterly path, ending at VT 7A in Shaftsbury. Hoosick Falls, New York
Hoosick Falls is a village in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 3,501 at the 2010 census. During its peak, in 1900, the village had a population of approximately 7,000. The village of Hoosick Falls is near the center of the town of Hoosick on NY 22. The village center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Hoosick Falls Historic District. The village has a thriving early-20th century downtown commercial district, and many of the buildings have been restored. Recent commercial additions include a bakery/sandwich shop, a French restaurant, a coffee roastery, an art gallery and bistro, and a barbecue joint with a live music venue.
