David Manson (militiaman)
David Manson, Sr. (September 6, 1753 – August 8, 1836) was an early patriot who fought in the American Revolutionary War on the side of the colonies in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Biography David Manson, Sr. was born September 6, 1753 in Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland, the son of William Manson, Sr. He immigrated to America with his siblings, William Manson, Jr. and Eleanor Manson. On February 1, 1780, he married Jean Johnston. Manson and his sons, William Johnston Manson and David Manson, Jr., served in the War of 1812. Manson served under various enlistments from July 1776 to January 1778. He reenlisted in what was called the "Flying Camp" under Colonel William Cosby. He aided in building Fort Lee and retreated when Fort Washington was taken. Manson served as an aide to General George Washington and held the rank of private. David Manson (schoolmaster)
David Manson (1716-1792) was an Irish schoolmaster who in teaching children basic literacy sought to exclude "drudgery and fear" by pioneering the use of play and peer tutoring. His methods were in varying degrees adapted by freely-instructed hedge-school masters across the north of Ireland, and were advertised to a larger British audience by Elizabeth Hamilton in her popular novel ''The Cottagers of Glenburnie'' (1808). Patronised by leading, reform-minded, families, his school in Belfast counted among its pupils the future pioneering naturalist John Templeton, the radical humanitarian Mary Ann McCracken and her brother Henry Joy McCracken, the United Irishman, who was to hang for his role in the 1798 Rebellion. David Ames Manson (December 24, 1841 – February 9, 1929) was a Canadian merchant and political figure in Quebec. He represented Brome in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal-Conservative member from 1880 to 1882. He was born in Mansonville, Canada East, the son of Robert Manson, of Scottish descent, and was educated at Knowlton, Stanstead and Waterloo. In 1866, he married Mary Eliza Manson. David Michael Manson (born January 27, 1967) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with several teams. He is an assistant coach with the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Manson played junior hockey with his hometown Prince Albert Raiders in the Western Hockey League. He was drafted 11th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft and joined the team a year later. He also played for the Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets/ Phoenix Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars and Toronto Maple Leafs. He retired in 2002 with 390 points and 2792 penalty minutes in 1103 career NHL games.
