David Madden (novelist)
David Madden (born July 25, 1933) is an American writer of many novels, short stories, poems, plays, and works of nonfiction and literary criticism. Biography Madden was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, to James Helvy and Emile Merritt Madden. He was named after David Madden, president of the East Tennessee Packing Co., where many of Madden’s family worked. At the age of 16, he was a radio announcer for WKGN in Knoxville. His first success was winning second place in a statewide one-act play competition with “Call Herman in to Supper” when he was 16. David Madden is an Australian entrepreneur associated with progressive causes. He is a co-founder of GetUp! a web-based political movement, and Avaaz, a global advocacy movement. He is passionate about rock climbing. In 2015, Madden founded Phandeeyar, a technology seed accelerator based in Yangon, Myanmar. Early life and education Madden grew up in Canberra and served as an Army officer before studying Arts and Law at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. David excelled in the law of the sea. David Joseph Madden (December 17, 1931 – January 16, 2014) was a Canadian-born American actor. His most famous role came on the 1970s sitcom ''The Partridge Family'', in which he played the group's manager, Reuben Kincaid, opposite Shirley Jones' character. Madden later had a recurring role as diner customer Earl Hicks on the mid-1970s to mid-1980s sitcom '' Alice''. Early life Madden was born in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, to Verna (née Burleigh) and Roger Madden. David John Madden (1880 – 31 July 1955) was an Irish Fine Gael politician, farmer and auctioneer. He was elected to Seanad Éireann in April 1938 by the Industrial and Commercial Panel. He was re-elected to the Seanad in July 1938, 1943 and 1944. He was elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fine Gael Teachta Dála (TD) for the Limerick West constituency at the 1948 general election. He was re-elected at the 1951 and 1954 general elections. David Madden (born 6 January 1963) is an English retired professional footballer who played in the 1990 FA Cup Final with Crystal Palace. Career Beginning as an apprentice at Southampton, Madden had a loan spell at AFC Bournemouth before joining Arsenal in summer of 1983. He mainly played for Arsenal's reserve side but also made two First Division appearances; he made his debut against West Bromwich Albion on 3 December 1983, and his second match was a week later at his boyhood heroes West Ham United. He was granted a free transfer at the end of the 1983–84 season. He moved to Charlton Athletic and had later spells with the Los Angeles Lazers, Reading, Crystal Palace, Birmingham City and Maidstone United. David Madden is an American media executive. Madden graduated from Harvard University in 1976. He took part in theater at university, and was an aspiring novelist, but at age 23 his novel was rejected by publishers. He dropped out of the University of California, Los Angeles shortly before attaining a master's degree in English Literature, and started in the film industry. Madden was one half of the Cort/Madden Company with Robert W. Cort.
