Edinburgh Eagles are a rugby league team based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The club plays in the Scottish National League and North East Rugby League. The club was founded in 1998. The ''Eagles'' have won the Scottish title a record 10 times. Home games have been played at a number of grounds including ''Corstophine RFC'' and ''Broughton RFC'' they currently play at Royal High School. History The Edinburgh Eagles club was founded in February 1998 and were admitted to the Scottish National League that same year, finishing a very creditable runner-up after losing out to Border Raiders in the final 14–40. The following season saw the club go one better when after defeating fellow Edinburgh side Portobello Playboys in the Grand Final 48–20, they lifted the Scottish title for the first time. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps.
