David Latta (politician)
David Gilliland Latta (June 6, 1869 – November 11, 1948) was a politician in Alberta, Canada and a municipal councillor in Edmonton. Biography David Latta was born June 6, 1869 in Ballycarny, County Wexford, Ireland. He was educated in nearby Enniscorthy, and came to Canada in 1889. He settled briefly in Ontario before moving to Whitemouth, Manitoba, where he joined the North-West Mounted Police in 1890. He was stationed near South Battleford, Saskatchewan, where he founded a sheep farm after being discharged in 1893. While there, he married Jessie Scott. In 1897 he sold the farm and moved to Edmonton, lured by the Klondike Gold Rush. In Edmonton, he worked as a carriage maker for three years, during which time his wife died in childbirth. He remarried in 1899 to Emily Decoteau, sister of athlete and officer Alex Decoteau. Edmonton City Council
The Edmonton City Council is the governing body of the City of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Edmonton currently has one mayor and twelve city councillors. Elections are held every four years. The most recent was held in 2021, and the next is in 2025. The mayor is elected across the whole city, through the First Past the Post plurality voting system. Councillors are elected one per ward, a division of the city, through the First Past the Post plurality voting system. On July 22, 2009, City Council voted to change the electoral system of six wards to a system of 12 wards; each represented by a single councillor. The changes took effect in the 2010 election. World War I

1906 Edmonton Municipal Election
The 1906 municipal election was held December 10, 1906 for the purpose of electing a mayor and five aldermen to sit on the Edmonton City Council, as well as five public school trustees and six separate school trustees. There were eight aldermen on city council, but three of the positions were already filled: Robert Manson, Joseph Henri Picard, and Samuel Smith had been elected to two-year terms in 1905, and were still in office. William Antrobus Griesbach had also been elected to a two-year term, but resigned to run for mayor. Accordingly, the fifth place aldermanic candidate in the 1906 election - Morton MacAuley - was elected only to serve out the remaining year of Griesbach's term.
