David Kaplan (pianist)
David Kaplan is an American piano soloist and chamber musician. He is currently on the faculty at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. Biography Born in New York City to musical parents in 1983, David Kaplan is the son of Mark Kaplan, renowned violinist and pedagogue. Following his undergraduate studies at UCLA, he attended Yale School of Music where he studied under Claude Frank. David is also a Fulbright Scholar, and studied conducting with Lutz Köhler at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. David is a core member of Decoda, the first ever Affiliate Ensemble of Carnegie Hall, a chamber ensemble dedicated to excellence in performance and meaningful engagement with the communities it performs for. Mark Kaplan (musician)
Mark Kaplan (born 30 December 1953, in Cambridge, Massachusetts) is an American violinist who studied at the Juilliard School under Dorothy DeLay. He is currently a professor at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. Before teaching at Indiana, Kaplan taught at UCLA in California. Kaplan has performed in all the principal cities of Europe, including London, Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Prague, Zürich, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Milan, as well as the Far East and Australia. Claude Frank
Claude Frank (born Claus Johannes Frank; December 24, 1925 – December 27, 2014) was a German-born American pianist. Biography Of Jewish ancestry, Frank was born in Nuremberg, Germany. His father emigrated to Brussels after the advent of the Third Reich, and the family eventually settled in Paris when Frank was 12. Frank subsequently began studies at the Paris Conservatoire, but in 1940, he and his mother escaped France by way of the Pyrenees and Lisbon, and settled in the USA. Frank studied with Artur Schnabel in New York, for whom he first played in Europe. He also was a pupil of Maria Curcio. Augusta Read Thomas
Augusta Read Thomas (born April 24, 1964) is an American composer and professor. Biography Thomas studied composition with Oliver Knussen at Tanglewood; Jacob Druckman at Yale University; Alan Stout and Bill Karlins at Northwestern University; and at the Royal Academy of Music in London (1989). She was a Bunting Fellow at Radcliffe College in 1990–91 and a Junior Fellow in the Society of Fellows at Harvard University from 1991 to 1994. Thomas was the longest-serving Mead Composer-in-Residence with the Chicago Symphony, for Daniel Barenboim and Pierre Boulez, from 1997 to 2006. Han Lash (born 1981) is an American composer of concert music who has taught at Yale School of Music, Mannes School of Music, and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Gabriel Kahane (born July 10, 1981) is an American composer and singer-songwriter. Early life and education Born in Venice Beach, California, Kahane is the son of a psychologist mother and the concert pianist Jeffrey Kahane. He attended the New England Conservatory before transferring to Brown University, where he wrote his first musical and graduated with a bachelor's degree in music. Andrew Norman (born October 31, 1979) is an American composer of contemporary classical music whose texturally complex music is influenced by architecture and the visual arts. His string trio '' The Companion Guide to Rome'' (2010), was a runner-up for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Music. Mohammed Fairouz (born November 1, 1985) is an American composer. He is one of the most frequently performed composers of his generation and has been described by Daniel J.
