David Hynes
David Thomas Hynes (born 31 March 1967) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) between 1991 and 1997. Hynes started his career at South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club Port Adelaide and was recruited by West Coast with pick 24 in the 1988 VFL Draft. He chose to remain with Port Adelaide for a time, playing in their 1988, 1989 and 1990 SANFL Premiership teams before making his AFL debut with the Eagles in Round 1, 1991 AFL season. From 1992 to 1995 he played finals football every year, including West Coast's 1994 AFL Grand Final win over Geelong. Hynes was a versatile player who was used as a key defender, key forward or ruckman. Hynes crossed to rival club Fremantle in 1996 and spent two seasons with the club. Dave Hynes
David E. Hynes (born April 17, 1951) is an American former professional ice hockey player who played 22 games in the National Hockey League for the Boston Bruins in 1973–75 as well as 22 games in the World Hockey Association for the New England Whalers in 1976–77. He was also a member of the United States national team at the 1972, 1973 and 1977 Ice Hockey World Championship tournaments. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As a youth, he played in the 1963 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with his Boston minor ice hockey team. Hynes has the distinction of being the first American born player to be drafted by the Boston Bruins. The 1991 AFL season was the 95th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), which was known previously as the Victorian Football League until 1989. Ruckman (Australian Rules Football Position)
In Australian rules football, a ruckman or ruckwoman is typically a tall and athletic player who contests at centre bounces and stoppages (such as boundary throw-ins and ball-ups). The ruckman is one of the most important players on the field. They are often key to coaching strategy and winning centre clearances which result in the most goal kicking opportunities (inside 50s). The role of the ruckman in Australian rules is similar to a lock in rugby union contesting a line-out. The key differences are that with the exception of boundary throw-ins, the ball is almost always thrown straight up high into the air rather than horizontally, so in this respect, the ruckman is similar to a basketball centre.
