David Hermelin
David B. Hermelin (December 27, 1936 – November 22, 2000) was United States ambassador to Norway and a Detroit area philanthropist and entrepreneur and a graduate of the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. The David B. Hermelin Volunteer Fundraising Award at the University of Michigan honors David Hermelin. The ORT Hermelin College of Engineering in Netanya, Israel, was named in his honor. It opened in October, 2000. On December 13, 2000, he was presented, posthumously, with the Presidential Citizens Medal by President Clinton. In 2000, Hermelin died of a brain tumor at 63 years old. Robin Chandler Duke
Robin Chandler Duke (born Grace Esther Tippett; October 13, 1923 – February 6, 2016) was an American women's reproductive rights advocate and diplomat. She was the United States Ambassador to Norway from 2000 to 2001. Early life Born Grace Esther Tippett in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of Richard Edgar Tippett and Esther (Chandler) Tippett. After her parents separated, she got modeling jobs at Lord & Taylor and elsewhere to help support her mother and sister. Career She began her journalism career in 1944 as a writer for the women's page of the ''New York Journal-American'' using the byline Robin Chandler. Later, after marrying actor Jeffrey Lynn, with whom she had two children, she found work at NBC-affiliate WCAU-TV in Philadelphia as a news reader. In 1952 she became an anchor-reporter with Dave Garroway, and covered national political conventions and the marriage of Jacqueline Bouvier to John F. Kennedy in 1953. Presidential Citizens Medal
The Presidential Citizens Medal is an award bestowed by the President of the United States. It is the second-highest civilian award in the United States and is second only to the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Established by executive order on November 13, 1969, by President Richard Nixon, it recognizes an individual "who has performed exemplary deeds or services for his or her country or fellow citizens." Only United States citizens are eligible for the medal, which may be awarded posthumously. The medal is a disc of gilt and enamel, based on the Seal of the President of the United States, with the eagle surrounded by a wreath of leaves. Netanya (also known as Natanya, he, נְתַנְיָה) is a city in the Northern Central District of Israel, and is the capital of the surrounding Sharon plain.
