David Hannah (footballer, Born 1867)
David Hannah (24 April 1867 – 12 January 1936) was a footballer who played as an inside left for Sunderland, where he won two Football League championships, later having spells at Liverpool and Woolwich Arsenal. Career Hannah was born in County Down in Ireland but relocated to Dunbartonshire in Scotland with his family during his childhood. After emerging as a teenager with Renton, he transferred to Sunderland in early 1890 alongside teammates Johnny Campbell and John Harvey. They became members of the all-Scottish 'team of all the talents' which won consecutive Football League championships in 1891–92 and 1892–93. Liverpool bought Hannah in November 1894 to boost their attacking options. He scored six goals in 17 games during a season in which the ''Reds'' were relegated to the Second Division, and three in 11 as they were promoted back to the top tier 1895–96. Sunderland Albion
Sunderland Albion Football Club was an English association football club based in Sunderland, England, formed in 1888 and disbanded in 1892. The club was reformed in 2020 but has as of 2023 ceased operations again. Summary Sunderland Albion were formed by some members of Sunderland A.F.C. who did not like the commercial direction the club was taking. The two clubs were fierce rivals – when they were drawn together in both the FA Cup and the Durham Challenge Cup in the 1888–89 season, Sunderland withdrew from both competitions rather than allow Albion to benefit from the increased gate receipts. However, there was so much demand locally for the clubs to play each other that two friendly matches were arranged, both won by Sunderland: 2–0 on 1 December 1888, in front of 18,000 spectators and 3–2 on 12 January 1889, in front of 12,000 spectators. The Football Alliance was an association football league in England which ran for three seasons, from 1889–90 to 1891–92. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. Jimmy Hannah
James Hannah (17 March 1869 – 1 December 1917) was a Scottish footballer who played for Sunderland and the Scottish national football team as a winger. Football career Hannah signed for Sunderland Albion from Third Lanark, and thereafter moved to Sunderland where he made his debut on 3 October 1891 against Everton in a 2–1 win at Newcastle Road. He played for the Wearsiders between 1891 and 1897 and won English League championship medals in 1893 and 1895 (teammates included David Hannah, no relation). His goalscoring record in the FA Cup was noteworthy, as he scored 10 times in 16 games in the competition, including a hat-trick in Sunderland's record 11–1 win over Fairfield F.C. on 2 February 1895 in the first round. Overall in his spell at Sunderland, he played in 152 league games and scored 69 goals.
