David Hammond (director)
David Hammond is an American director and acting teacher. He trained for the theatre at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and received his M.F.A. from the Carnegie Mellon University Drama Department. He did his undergraduate studies at Harvard University and graduated magna cum laude with a concentration in Elizabethan literature. He taught at the Juilliard School, the American Conservatory Theater, and the Yale School of Drama and later became the artistic director of the PlayMakers Repertory Company. Hammond has continued to teach, at New York University's Graduate Acting Program at Tisch School of the Arts, the American Repertory Theater/Moscow Art Theater School Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard University, and recently at Guilford College. Hammond also serves as the 6th Congressional District Chair for the LGBTQ Democrats of North Carolina. David Thurwell Hammond (January 5, 1881 – February 3, 1940) was an American freestyle swimmer and water polo player who competed in the 1904 Summer Olympics. In the 1904 Olympics he won two silver medals as a member of American 4x50 yard freestyle relay team and as a member of Chicago Athletic Association water polo team. David Hammond (broadcaster)
David Hammond (1928-2008) was a broadcaster, documentary film-maker and folk-singer from Northern Ireland. Life and work Hammond was born in Belfast in 1928 and educated at Methodist College. He then trained as a teacher at Stranmillis College. He taught for several years in primary schools and then took up a post as a teacher at Orangefield Boys' Secondary School. Among his many pupils were Van Morrison and Brian Keenan. In 1964 he was appointed to the education department of BBC Northern Ireland. In this role he collaborated with others in the production of many films about life in Northern Ireland. These included ''Today and Yesterday in Northern Ireland'', ''Explorations'', and the memorial of life in the Belfast shipyards, ''Steel Chest'', ''Nail in the Boot'', and ''the Barking Dog''.
