David H. Cyr
David Henry Cyr (born January 9, 1950) is a former Deputy Chief of Chaplains of the United States Air Force. Career Cyr was born in Patten, Maine. He joined the United States Air Force as a Protestant chaplain in 1979. His assignments included Executive Office to the Chief of Chaplains from 1993 to 1995, Chaplain of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1998 to 2001, Command Chaplain of the United States Air Forces in Europe from 2001 to 2003 and Command Chaplain at Headquarters Air Combat Command from 2003 to 2006. He was named Deputy Chief of Chaplains and achieved the rank of brigadier general in 2008. Cyr remained Deputy Chief of Chaplains until 2011. He retired later that year. Awards he received include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with silver oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal. Patten, Maine
Patten is a small town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 881. The village of Patten is in the northeast part of the town. History The town was named for Amos Patten, a resident of Bangor, Maine, who about 1828 purchased Township No. 4, Range 6, as it was then designated, for its vast timber supply. In 1829 Amos Patten hired Ira Fish and Eli Kellogg to survey the land. The surveyors soon asked permission to establish their homes in Patten. The town was incorporated on April 16, 1841 and given its present name at that time. By 1850 the population numbered 470, reaching 704 in 1870, and 716 residents in 1880. The town's infrastructure gradually appeared. In March, 1841 the Congregational Church was organized. Within a few years, citizens began agitating for local education. The Achievement Medal is a military decoration of the United States Armed Forces. The Achievement Medal was first proposed as a means to recognize outstanding achievement or meritorious service of military personnel who were not eligible to receive the higher Commendation Medal or the Meritorious Service Medal. Each military service issues its own version of the Achievement Medal, with a fifth version authorized by the U.S. Department of Defense for joint military activity. The National War College (NWC) of the United States is a school in the National Defense University. It is housed in Roosevelt Hall on Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington, D.C., the third-oldest Army post still active. History The National War College (NWC) was officially established on July 1, 1946, as an upgraded replacement for the Army-Navy Staff College, which operated from June 1943 to July 1946. The college was one of James Forrestal's favorite causes. According to Lt. Gen. Leonard T. Bangor Theological Seminary was an ecumenical seminary, founded in 1814, in the Congregational tradition of the United Church of Christ. Located in Bangor, Maine, and Portland, Maine, it was the only accredited graduate school of religion in Northern New England The seminary had campuses in Bangor and Portland, Maine. Its primary mission was preparation for Christian ministry (now general theological education).
