David Guzmán
David Alberto Guzmán Pérez (born 18 February 1990) is a Costa Rican professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Liga FPD club Saprissa and the Costa Rica national team. Club career Guzmán made his debut for Saprissa in 2009 and stayed with the club for 7 years. On 22 December 2016, he joined MLS team Portland Timbers. On May 6, 2019, Guzman was traded to Columbus Crew SC in exchange for an international roster slot. International career Guzmán played at the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup and in the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where the Costa Rica national under-20 football team, came 4th after losing to Hungary in the match for the 3rd place. He made his senior debut for Costa Rica in an October 2010 friendly match against Peru. He represented his country at the 2011 Copa América and was a non-playing squad member at the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Deportivo Saprissa
Deportivo Saprissa is a Costa Rican sports club, mostly known for its football team. The club is based in San Juan de Tibás, San José, and play their home games at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá. The team's signature colours are purple (burgundy) and white. It is the main team representing the capital, but with the distinction of being massively followed throughout the whole country and overseas. The club was founded in 1935 and has competed in the Costa Rican first division since 1949. The name of the team comes from one of the club's main founders, Ricardo Saprissa. One of the most popular nicknames for the team (''The Purple Monster'') can be traced back to 1987, when the Costa Rican newspaper '' Diario Extra'' gave the team the nickname during a derby, because of the club's enormous following. 2011 Copa América
The 2011 Campeonato Sudamericano Copa América, better known as the 2011 Copa América or the Copa América 2011 Argentina, was the 43rd edition of the Copa América, the main international football tournament for national teams in South America. 2016–17 Liga FPD
The 2015–16 Costa Rican FPD is the 96th season of the Costa Rican top-flight football league. It is divided in two championships: the Invierno and Verano seasons. Format The season format was changed from previous years. The season will still be split into two tournaments, the Invierno and Verano. Also, each tournament's regular stage will still consist of a double-round robin. However, the top four teams from the regular stage will advance to a "quadrangular" double-round robin instead of a play-off stage. The season began on 31 July 2011. Promotion and relegation Universidad de Costa Rica finished last season in last place in the overall table at the end of last season and were relegated to the Segunda División. Replacing them in the league for this season are the overall champions of last season's Segunda División competition, Belén Siglo XXI. Primera División (Costa Rica)
The Primera División of Costa Rica, commonly known as Fútbol de Primera División (FPD), and Liga Promerica for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional association football division in Costa Rica. It is administered by the Unión de Clubes de Fútbol de la Primera División (UNAFUT). The league consists of 12 teams, with the last-placed team relegated to the Liga de Ascenso. The MLS Cup Playoffs is the annual postseason elimination tournament of Major League Soccer. The final match of the tournament is the MLS Cup, the league's championship game.
