David Fowler (physicist)
David Fowler, , (born 1 June 1950) is a British environmental physicist, recognized as an authority on atmospheric pollution. He specializes in micrometeorology, the land-atmosphere exchange of trace gases and particles, and the effects of pollutants on vegetation. Education and career Fowler gained a B.Sc. in environmental physics at the University of Nottingham in 1972, followed by a Ph.D. at the same university in 1976, before moving to the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology in Edinburgh (later incorporated into the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology), where he spent the next four decades of his career. He has authored around 250 peer-reviewed papers. Policy work Apart from scientific research, Fowler has also worked on the application of air quality science to public policy in both the UK and Europe. David Fowler (born 1958) is an American politician and a former member of the Tennessee Senate for the 11th district, which comprises part of Hamilton County. Early life David Fowler was born on June 30, 1958, in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a B.S. in 1980, and with a J.D. from University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1983. Career Fowler practiced law in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Chattanooga, Tennessee. taught Law and Government at Bryan College for four years. Fowler was a Republican member of the Tennessee State Senate from the 99th Tennessee General Assembly until the 104th, representing Signal Mountain, Tennessee. Fowler is the president of the Family Action Council of Tennessee (FACT), an organization associated with the Focus on the Family. David Herbert Fowler (28 April 1937 – 13 April 2004) was a historian of Greek mathematics who published work on pre- Eudoxian ratio theory (using the process he called anthyphairesis). He disputed the standard story of Greek mathematical discovery, in which the discovery of the phenomenon of incommensurability came as a shock. Fowler was also the translator of René Thom's book ''Structural Stability and Morphogenesis'' from French (''Stabilité strukturelle et morphogénèse'') into English. D. & J. Fowler Ltd. was a wholesale grocery company in Adelaide, South Australia. It was founded as a retail establishment by David Fowler in 1854, before becoming a leading wholesale and buying agent, indenting firm in the colony of South Australia. They were the creators and owners of the well-known Lion brand, which included confectionery, flour, coffee, canned fruit and other goods; "Lion" brand flour endures, under different ownership, today. The firm's interests and holdings were extensive, including the Adelaide Milling Company (purchased 1895), Adelaide Bottle Company (1912), the Robur Tea Company (1928), and others. D. & J.
