David Forsyth (actor)
David Forsyth is an American actor. Forsyth was born into a military family and served with the Marines from 1967 to 1971, during the Vietnam War. He served as a paramedic during the war and after the war worked as a paramedic and fireman in Florida. Forsyth became interested in acting and was cast on several soap operas. He played T.J. Canfield on the short lived ''Texas'' (1981–1982), and Burke Donovan on ''As the World Turns'' in 1983. He played ''Henderson Herald'' reporter Hogan McCleary in ''Search for Tomorrow'', a role he played until that show ended in 1986. He left the show in 1984, but returned seven months later in 1985. Forsyth's longest stint was as Vietnam vet and physician John Hudson on '' Another World'' from 1987 to 1997. Forsyth credited then-executive producer John Whitesell with the idea to bring his own Vietnam experiences to the role of John, which helped him process his own complicated experiences in the war. David Forsyth (chess Player)
David Forsyth (1854–1909), a Scotsman who emigrated to New Zealand, served as chess editor of the ''Glasgow Weekly Herald''. Forsyth invented a method for recording chess positions, which he published in the ''Glasgow Weekly Herald'' in 1883, now known as Forsyth notation. He won the New Zealand Chess Championship in 1901. He was also one of the compilers of what was possibly the first regular Go column in any newspaper (in the '' Otago Witness'', from February 1902 until March 1903), according to the New Zealand Go Society. In recent times, Forsyth notation has been extended as Forsyth–Edwards Notation for use with computers. David Forsyth (computer Scientist)
David A. Forsyth is a South-African-born American computer scientist and the Fulton Watson Copp Chair in Computer Science the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. Education Forsyth holds Bachelor of Science (1984) and Master of Science (1986) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Oxford for research supervisor J. Michael Brady in 1989. Career and research Forsyth stayed at Oxford as a postdoc ("Fellow by Examination") until 1991. Then he moved to the University of Iowa, and in 1994 he moved to the University of California, Berkeley, where he became a full professor before moving to the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 2004. David Forsyth (soccer)
David Forsyth (December 15, 1852 – September 14, 1936) was a Canadian educator and soccer player and administrator. A member of the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame, he is known as the "Father of Canadian Soccer". Early and personal life Forsyth was born in Perthshire, Scotland, in 1852. His family emigrated to Canada when he was one year old, settling in the village of Lynden, Ontario. Educated at local schools in Lynden, then Dundas High School and Galt Collegiate Institute, he went on to study mathematics at the University of Toronto, graduating with a silver medal in 1875. He was married to Augusta Mylius from 1882 until her death in 1912.
