David Cox (rugby League)
David Cox is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s. He played for Canberra and Illawarra in the ARL/NRL competitions. Playing career Cox made his first grade debut for Canberra in round 2 of the 1995 ARL season against Penrith at Bruce Stadium. Cox played off the interchange bench in Canberra's 34-12 victory. After one season with Canberra, Cox signed for Illawarra. In round 12 of the 1997 ARL season, Cox scored his first try in the top grade during a 28-28 draw with South Sydney. Cox returned to Canberra ahead of the 1998 NRL season 1998 was designated as the ''International Year of the Ocean''. The Illawarra Steelers are an Australian rugby league football club based in the city of Wollongong, New South Wales. The club competed in Australia's top-level rugby league competition from 1982 until 1998. On the 13th of December 1980, they were the first non-Sydney based team to be admitted into the New South Wales Rugby League premiership, with the Canberra Raiders being admitted later ensuring an even number of teams in the competition for the start of their first season, 1982. 1995 ARL Season
The 1995 ARL premiership was the 88th season of professional rugby league football in Australia, and the first to be run by the Australian Rugby League following the hand-over of the Premiership's administration by the New South Wales Rugby League. Penrith Panthers
The Penrith Panthers are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the western Sydney suburb of Penrith that competes in the NRL. The team is based west of the centre of Sydney, at the foot of the Blue Mountains. Penrith are the current reigning NRL Premiers, having won the title four times. 1997 ARL Season
The 1997 Australian Rugby League season was the 90th season of professional rugby league football in Australia, and the third season run by the Australian Rugby League. While several clubs had left the League to compete in the 1997 Super League season, twelve ARL-loyal teams – eight from across Sydney, two from greater New South Wales and two from Queensland – competed for the Optus Cup Trophy. The top seven teams then played a series of knock-out finals which culminated in a September grand final played in Sydney between the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and the Newcastle Knights.
