David Connolly (politician)
David Miles Connolly (born 20 July 1939) is a former Australian politician and diplomat. He was a member of the Liberal Party and represented the Division of Bradfield in the House of Representatives from 1974 to 1996. He had been a member of the diplomatic service before entering politics and later served as High Commissioner of Australia to South Africa from 1998 to 2002. Early life Connolly was born in Sydney and spent his early years with his parents in Sri Lanka. He was educated at Saint Ignatius' College, Riverview and at the University of Sydney. Connolly served on the Students' Representative Council (SRC) as the evening student's representative. He was a research officer with the NSW Liberal Party before becoming private secretary to Senator Sir Alister McMullin, the President of the Australian Senate, between 1963 and 1965 when he joined the Australian Diplomatic Service, and served in Sri Lanka, UN New York and Israel. Division Of Bradfield
The Division of Bradfield is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. History Bradfield was created in the 1949 expansion of Parliament, and was named in honour of Dr John Bradfield, the designer of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Its first member was Billy Hughes, a former Prime Minister of Australia and the last serving member of the first federal Parliament. The bulk of the seat was carved out of North Sydney, which Hughes represented from 1923 to 1949. After Hughes, its best-known member was Brendan Nelson, a minister in the third and fourth Howard Governments and the federal Leader of the Opposition from 2007 to 2008. The current Member for Bradfield, since the 2009 Bradfield by-election, is Paul Fletcher, a member of the Liberal Party of Australia. Sir Alister Maxwell McMullin, (14 July 1900 – 7 August 1984) was an Australian politician who served as a Australian Senate, Senator for New South Wales from 1951 to 1971, representing the Liberal Party of Australia, Liberal Party. He was President of the Senate (Australia), President of the Senate for a record term of almost 18 years, from 1953 to 1971. Early life McMullin was the youngest of seven children born to Catherine (née McDonald) and William George McMullin. The University of Sydney Students' Representative Council (SRC) is the representative body for undergraduate students at the University of Sydney. In addition to a student-elected council and student advocacy portfolios, the SRC coordinates a free Legal Service and Caseworker service for all undergraduate students at the University of Sydney.
