David Coates (diplomat)
David Coates (born 13 November 1947) is a retired British diplomat, scholar, former Ambassador to Ivory Coast and Director General of the British Trade & Cultural Office (BTCO) in Taipei. Coates was educated at the History Department, University of Bristol, then he studied Mandarin at the Stanford Center of National Taiwan University from 1972 to 1973, and taught in Taiwanese cram schools. After joining the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), Coates worked at the British Embassy Beijing as First Secretary (Commercial), from 1989 to 1992 he was assigned to Beijing again, as Counsellor (Political) and Deputy Chief of Mission. After returning to London, he served as the Head of Joint Assistance Unit (Central and Eastern Europe) from 1993 to 1995. and was promoted to the Head of Far East and Pacific Department (1995–98). The Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Côte d'Ivoire is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative to the Ivory Coast, and head of the UK's diplomatic mission in Abidjan. The British embassy in Abidjan was closed in 2005 because of the worsening security situation and the mission to Ivory Coast was temporarily operated out of the embassy in neighbouring Ghana. Alan Stanley Collins
Sir Alan Stanley Collins, KCVO, CMG (; born 1 April 1948), is a retired British diplomat and former Consul General in New York City (2007–11), High Commissioner to Singapore (2003–07) and Ambassador to the Philippines (1998–2002). Collins joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1981 as a Desk Office after working in the Ministry of Defence for around 11 years. He had served in a number of diplomatic positions in Ethiopia and the Philippines before he became Head of Aviation and Maritime Department in 1993. From 1995 to 1998, he was Director-General of the British Trade and Cultural Office in Taipei (predecessor of the British Office Taipei). Between 2002 and 2003, he was seconded to Royal Dutch Shell as Vice-President for International Relations. Jean Francois Gordon (born 16 April 1953) was the British Ambassador to Algeria from 1996 to 1999, Ambassador to the Ivory Coast from 2001 to 2004 and High Commissioner to Uganda from 2005 to 2008. Sir David Alexander Warren, KCMG (born 11 August 1952) is a British diplomat, serving as HM Ambassador to Japan in the period 2008–2012. He retired from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in January 2013, and served as chairman of The Japan Society in London from 2013 to 2019. Biography Educated at Homefield Preparatory School when on Grove Road in Sutton, Surrey, Epsom College and Exeter College, Oxford, Warren joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1975.
