David Carver (footballer)
David Francis Carver (born 16 April 1944) is an English former professional footballer. During his career, he made over 300 appearances in the Football League most notably for Cardiff City where he made over 200 appearances and was part of the side that won the Welsh Cup on four occasions between 1968 and 1971. Career Carver began his career at his hometown club Rotherham United and after establishing himself in the squad he was signed by Jimmy Scoular, then manager of Cardiff City for a fee of £11,000 in January 1966. He made his debut in a 1–1 draw with Bury and eventually formed a strong full back partnership alongside Gary Bell. His only league goal for the club came on 17 October 1970 during a 2–2 draw with Leicester City. After spending six years at Cardiff he was loaned out for a short period at Swansea City before being allowed to leave and join Hereford United in 1973, where he spent one year before finishing his playing career at Doncaster Rovers. Wickersley
Wickersley is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham in South Yorkshire, England, situated from the centre of Rotherham. The area is very near to road junctions for the M1, M18 and A1(M) (passing through Bramley, Rotherham). It is home to the secondary school and sixth form, Wickersley School and Sports College. Gary Bell (born 4 April 1947) is an English former professional footballer. During his career, he made over 350 appearances in The Football League most notably with Cardiff City where he spent eight years, helping the side to seven Welsh Cup victories. He later played for Hereford United, Newport County and Gloucester City. Career Early career Born in Stourbridge, Bell supported West Bromwich Albion as a child and spent time on trial with the club at the age of 15, having previously played reserve team football for Halesowen Town as a left winger in the Worcestershire Combination League. Jimmy Scoular
James Scoular (11 January 1925 – 19 March 1998) was a Scottish football player and manager. Known as a tough, combative player with precise passing skills, Scoular made over 600 appearances in the Football League with Portsmouth, Newcastle United and Bradford Park Avenue, as a player-manager, and attained nine caps for Scotland in a playing career spanning nearly twenty years. Following his retirement from playing, Scoular went on to manage Cardiff City and Newport County.
