David Carnegie, 2nd Earl of Northesk was born the son of John Carnegie, 1st Earl of Northesk and Magdalen Haliburton before 1627. He died on 12 December 1679. John Carnegie, 1st Earl Of Northesk
John Carnegie, 1st Earl of Northesk (1611–1667), was a Scottish noble who supported the Royalist cause during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. Biography Carnegie was the son of David Carnegie and Eupheme Wemyss, a descendant of Henry Sinclair, 3rd Lord Sinclair, and was younger brother of David Carnegie, 1st Earl of Southesk. He was born before 1611 and lived at Inglismaldie Castle. Carnegie had already been created Earl of Ethie and Lord Lour in 1647 but relinquished those titles in exchange for the 1662 creations. It was under the title Earl of Ethie that he was fined £6,000 under Cromwell's Act of Grace. Carnegie died on 8 January 1667. David Carnegie, 3rd Earl of Northesk (November 1643 – 3 October 1688) was a Scottish aristocrat and landowner. Early life Carnegie was born in November 1643. He was the son of David Carnegie, 2nd Earl of Northesk and Lady Jean Maule. His younger brothers were James Carnegie (died 1707), James Carnegie, a member of the Parliament of Scotland, Patrick Carnegie of Lour, Alexander Carnegie (''later'' Blair of Kinfauns). His sisters included Lady Jean Carnegie (second wife Colin Lindsay, 3rd Earl of Balcarres), and Lady Magdalene Carnegie (wife of John Moodie of Ardbikie). His paternal grandparents were John Carnegie, 1st Earl of Northesk and Magdalen ( Haliburton) Erskine (widow of John Erskine of Dun and eldest daughter of Sir James Haliburton of Pitcur). James Carnegie (died 1707)
James Carnegie of Finavon or Findhaven (died 10 March 1707) was a member of the Parliament of Scotland. The second son of David Carnegie, 2nd Earl of Northesk, he was infeft on 6 June 1672. By contract of 10 February and June 1674, he married Anna Lundin, second daughter of Dame Margaret Lundin of that Ilk and Robert Maitland, brother of the Duke of Lauderdale. Their children were: * Charles, who was " palsied" and died without issue in 1712 * James, the second son, in whose favour Carnegie executed an entail on 13 September 1703 * Margaret, who married Patrick Lyon of Auchterhouse * Jean, who married her first cousin Alexander Blair of Kinfauns, Perthshire; their daughter Margaret married John Gray, 11th Lord Gray. Colin Lindsay, 3rd Earl of Balcarres (1652–1722) was a Scottish aristocrat and politician, one of the most important supporters of James II of England. Biography Early life Colin Lindsay was baptized at Kilconquhar on 23 August 1652, the second surviving son of Alexander Lindsay, first Earl of Balcarres by his wife, Lady Anna Mackenzie, daughter and coheiress of Colin Mackenzie, 1st Earl of Seaforth. He succeeded to the earldom, while still a child, on the death at the age of twelve, of his brother Charles, second earl, 15 Oct. 1662. For the purposes of precedence and seniority, the earldom of Northesk is treated as having been created in 1647, the date of the creation of the earldom of Ethie.
