David Beetge
David Beetge was Diocese of the Highveld, Bishop of the Highveld, South Africa, and Dean of the Province of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa—the most senior bishop next to the Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, Archbishop of Cape Town. Born at Witbank, Mpumalanga, Witbank in October 1948, he died in Johannesburg, South Africa, Johannesburg on 27 September 2008. Early career Beetge began a career in the commercial world, becoming, in his late 20s, company secretary of ICI (a computer consultancy) in South Africa. He had qualified through the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators. The Diocese of the Highveld (formerly the Diocese of South Eastern Transvaal) is a diocese of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa covering the East Rand in Gauteng province and the southern part of Mpumalanga province in South Africa. The bishop's seat is at St Dunstan's Cathedral in Benoni, Gauteng, Benoni. History The Diocese of the Highveld was formed through a multiplication of the original Anglican Diocese of Johannesburg, which, in geographical terms, embraced the whole of the former Southern Transvaal Province of South Africa. The Anglican Communion is the third largest Christian communion after the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches. David Bannerman (bishop)
David Hugh Bannerman is a retired South African Anglican bishop. Education Bannerman holds a Diploma in Theology ( St Paul's College, Grahamstown), BA (Unisa), a BAHons Psy (Unisa) and Master's in Theology (Unisa). Clerical career Bannerman started his church career in 1973 at St. John's Cathedral, Bulawayo and then moved to the Diocese of Bloemfontein in 1977. In 1995 he moved to the Diocese of South Eastern Transvaal where he became Rector of St. Dunstan's Cathedral and Dean in 1999. In succession to David Beetge, he was consecrated as bishop and installed as Bishop of the Highveld on 25 April 2009. Retiring, Bannerman's term of office ended on 31 January 2015. He was granted Permission to Officiate in The Diocese of Canterbury, for a period of three years, with effect from 10 May 2021. Rowan Douglas Williams, Baron Williams of Oystermouth, (born 14 June 1950) is a Welsh Anglican bishop, theologian and poet. Thabo Cecil Makgoba KStJ (born 15 December 1960 in Alexandra, Johannesburg) is the South African Anglican archbishop of Cape Town. He had served before as bishop of Grahamstown. Biography Makgoba graduated from Orlando High, Soweto, and completed his BSc degree at Wits University before going to St Paul's College, Grahamstown to study for the Anglican ministry. He married Lungelwa Manona. Since then he obtained an MEd degree in Educational Psychology at Wits, where he also lectured part-time from 1993 to 1996. He was made bishop of Queenstown (a suffragan bishop in the Diocese of Grahamstown) on 25 May 2002 and became the diocesan bishop of Grahamstown (in Makhanda) in 2004. The University of Natal was a university in the former South African province Natal which later became KwaZulu-Natal. The University of Natal no longer exists as a distinct legal entity, as it was incorporated into the University of KwaZulu-Natal on 1 January 2004. It was founded in 1910 as the Natal University College in Pietermaritzburg and expanded to include a campus in Durban in 1931.
