David Allan (broadcaster)
David Allan (born 7 August 1940, in Bury, Lancashire) is an English broadcaster and journalist, best known for his work as a television continuity announcer and radio presenter. Radio career Educated at Bury Grammar School, Allan spent nine years working in theatre as a stage manager before he began broadcasting on the offshore radio, offshore station Radio 390 in 1966. In 1968, he joined BBC Radio 2 to present country music programmes, a role he occupied for much of the 1970s and to a lesser extent in the 1980s, also presenting the station's early Sunday morning show from 1989–91 and deputising for the likes of Ray Moore (broadcaster), Ray Moore, Chris Stuart and Terry Wogan. In 1994, he presented shows on Country 1035 in London, but did not stay long and was a heavy critic of the station's music playlist. David Walter Allan (born 5 November 1937) is a former West Indian cricketer who played in five Tests from 1962 to 1966. He was wicket-keeper in all five Tests. He was the first and fastest in the Melbourne to Warrnambool Classic on three occasions, in 1976, 1979 and 1982. David Steele Allan (30 April 1863 – 26 June 1930) was a Scottish footballer who played for Queen's Park and the Scotland national team. He was born in Irvine, North Ayrshire and learned his football at Ayr Academy and, on moving to Glasgow to begin his career as a stockbroker, he joined Queen's Park in 1880. He won four Scottish Cup medals with the club in 1881, 1884, 1886 and 1890 and played in the club's FA Cup finals of 1884 and 1885. David Allan (13 February 1744 – 6 August 1796) was a Scottish painter, limner, and illustrator, best known for historical subjects and genre works. Life He was born in Alloa in central Scotland. On leaving Foulis's Academy of painting at Glasgow (1762), after seven years' successful study, he obtained the patronage of Charles Cathcart, 9th Lord Cathcart and of Erskine of Mar, on whose estate he had been born. In 1764 Erskine made it possible for Allan to travel to Rome. He remained in Italy until 1777, studying under Gavin Hamilton and copying the old masters. In 1771 Allan sent two history paintings, ''Pompey the Great after his Defeat'' and ''Cleopatra Weeping Over the Ashes of Mark Antony'' (both now lost) to the exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts in London. In 1773, still in Rome, his ''Hector’s Farewell from Andromache'' won the Accademia di San Luca's gold medal. Lieutenant-Colonel William David Allan Order of the British Empire, OBE (4 November 1879 – 9 January 1961), known as David Allan, was a British soldier and police officer. Allan was born in Elgin, Moray, Scotland. He was educated at Elgin Academy, Scotland, Elgin Academy and Blundell's School and commissioned a second lieutenant in the 3rd (Morayshire) Volunteer Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders on 4 January 1902. He transferred to the Regular Army, in the Black Watch, on 8 February 1902, and served with his regiment in the Second Boer War in South Africa. After the end of hostilities there in June 1902, he left Cape Town with other men of the regiment on the SS ''Orissa'', which arrived at Southampton in late October 1902. He had been promoted Lieutenant (British Army and Royal Marines), lieutenant by 1910. David Allan (1 April 1965 – 3 July 2012) was a British racing driver and Honda test driver. He started his racing career in the National Saloon Car Championship with Synchro Motorsport which he was a key member of, driving a Honda Civic finishing 14th with 16 points. He drove in the series for another two years finishing 10th in 1999 and 14th in 2000 along with entering one race of the Belgian Procar in both years. For 2001 he made the switch to the British Touring Car Championship driving a Honda Accord in the Production Class eventually finishing 12th in the championship, missing three rounds with Mark Lemmer driving in two. He made a late entry in 2002 racing alongside eventual Production champion James Kaye driving a Honda Civic Type-R. He was outraced by Kaye for most of the season finishing 9th in the championship. Davie Allan is an American guitarist best known for his work on soundtracks to various teen and biker movies in the 1960s. Allan's backing band is almost always the Arrows (i.e., Davie Allan & the Arrows), although the Arrows have never had a stable lineup. Biography Allan grew up in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California, and learned to play guitar as a teenager. His career as a musician began when he teamed up with Mike Curb, a friend he met in the choir at Grant High School in Valley Glen, California, to form an instrumental surf combo. In 1963, Curb founded Curb Records, the first of many labels he would run, and released the first Davie Allan single, “War Path”. Allan participated in recording a number of other singles for Curb's label, under group names like the Sudells, the Heyburners, and the Zanies.
