Davenport, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Davenport is a suburb in the Australian state of South Australia located about north of the state capital of Adelaide and about north-east of the municipal seat in Port Augusta. The suburb was created on 8 July 2014 on land excluded from the existing suburbs of Port Augusta and Wami Kata. This followed a request from the Davenport Community Council, the organisation representing the aboriginal community residing there. It is located within the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Davenport. The names of private roads and the numbering of property within the suburb were approved by the council meeting of the City of Port Augusta held on 27 October 2014. Land in both the suburb and the adjoining suburb of Wami Kuta was associated with the Umeewarra Mission which was operated by the Open Brethren Assemblies of South Australia from 1937 to 1964 and whose main elements were a school and a home for children. The Hundred of Davenport is a cadastral hundred within the County of Frome in South Australia, proclaimed in 1860. Within its bounds are the rural city of Port Augusta, the township of Stirling North and the localities of Davenport, Winninowie, Port Paterson, Mundallio and Wami Kata on the east coast of the head of the Spencer Gulf. Wami Kata, South Australia
Wami Kata is a suburb in the Far North region of South Australia, situated within the City of Port Augusta. It was named and its boundaries created in February 1994, named for the Aboriginal community. The name means "head of the snake" in Pitjantjatjara. A section of Wami Kata was severed and included into the new locality of Emeroo in 2013, and a further portion in its south severed, along with a section of neighbouring Port Augusta, to create the new suburb of Davenport in 2014. Following the creation of Davenport in 2014, the Wami Kata Old Folks Home now lies within Davenport.
