__NOTOC__ Davenport is a locality in the Northern Territory of Australia located about south of the territory capital of Darwin. The locality consists of the following land (from west to east): #The Singleton and Neutral Junction pastoral leases, #The Kurundi and Murray Downs pastoral leases, and the Mungkarta Aboriginal Lands Trust, #The Epenarra pastoral lease, the Warumungu and Anurrete Aboriginal Lands Trusts and the Elkedra pastoral lease. The locality fully surrounds the communities of Ali Curung, Tara and Wutungurra. As of 2020, it has an area of . The locality's boundaries and name were gazetted on 4 April 2007. Its name is derived from the mountain range which was named in 1860 by John McDouall Stuart as the Davenport Range after Samuel Davenport, a South Australian politician. John McDouall Stuart
John McDouall Stuart (7 September 18155 June 1866), often referred to as simply "McDouall Stuart", was a Scottish explorer and one of the most accomplished of all Australia's inland explorers. Stuart led the first successful expedition to traverse the Australian mainland from south to north and return, through the centre of the continent. His experience and the care he showed for his team ensured he never lost a man, despite the harshness of the country he encountered. The explorations of Stuart eventually resulted in the 1863 annexation of a huge area of country to the Government of South Australia. This area became known as the Northern Territory. In 1911 the Commonwealth of Australia assumed responsibility for that area. In 1871–72 the Australian Overland Telegraph Line was constructed along Stuart's route. Division Of Lingiari
The Division of Lingiari is an Australian electoral division in the Northern Territory that covers the entirety of the territory outside of the Division of Solomon, which covers Darwin and surrounding areas. The division also includes the Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Lingiari includes all of the Northern Territory's remote Indigenous communities, most of whom vote when visited by mobile polling teams during the election campaign. The current MP is Marion Scrymgour, a member of the Australian Labor Party. Scrymgour herself is Indigenous and inherited Tiwi identity from her mother. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. Samuel Davenport
Sir Samuel Davenport (5 March 1818 – 3 September 1906) was one of the early settlers of Australia and became a landowner and parliamentarian in South Australia. Davenport was fourth son of George Davenport, a wealthy English banker, and his wife Jane Devereux, ''née'' Davies, and was educated at Mill Hill School in North London. His father, had become an agent of the South Australia Company in England and together with partners Frederick Luck (quarter share) and Roger Cunliffe (one-eighth share) paid £4416 for a special survey of in South Australia, and sent his eldest son (George) Francis Davenport to select the land. Francis and his second wife Sarah Davenport (née Fincher) arrived in Adelaide in February 1840 aboard ''Rajasthan''. Epenarra Station
Pine Hill Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station on the lower Barkly Tableland in the Northern Territory of Australia. Location It is located along the Frew River about north of Alice Springs and about east off the Stuart Highway. History In 2019, the property was acquired by David and Suzanne Bassingthwaighte from Queensland from Filipino banker and property developer Romeo Roxas, who sold Pine Hill Station at around the same time. The property was stocked with approximately 7,400 head of droughtmaster-cross cattle and had been listed at 16 million.
