Sir David John White (born 2 February 1940), known professionally by his stage name David Jason, is an English actor. He is best known for his roles as Derek "Del Boy" Trotter in the BBC sitcom ''Only Fools and Horses'', Detective Inspector Jack Frost in ''A Touch of Frost,'' Granville in ''Open All Hours'' and ''Still Open All Hours,'' and Pop Larkin in '' The Darling Buds of May'', as well as voicing Mr. Toad in ''The Wind in the Willows'', the BFG in the 1989 film and the title characters of '' Danger Mouse'' and ''Count Duckula''. David Gordon White (born September 3, 1953) is an American Indologist. Academic career David Gordon White took his B.A. in South Asian Studies at the University of Wisconsin in 1975. He obtained an M.A. in Religion at the University of Chicago in 1981 and his Ph.D. in the history of religions there in 1988; his dissertation was titled ''The Other Gives Rise to Self: Dog-Men on the Borders of Medieval Europe, India, and China''. Charles David White (July 1, 1862 – February 7, 1935), who normally went by his middle name, was an American geologist, born in Palmyra, New York. He graduated from Cornell University in 1886, and in 1889 became a member of the United States Geological Survey. Eventually, he rose to be chief geologist. In 1903 he became an associate curator of paleobotany at the Smithsonian Institution. He wrote numerous papers on geological and paleontological subjects.
