Dave Meier
David Keith Meier (born August 8, 1959) is a former Major League Baseball left fielder, who also played a few games at third base and as a designated hitter. Early life and education Meier attended Bullard High School in Fresno, California and then went on to attend Stanford University and Fresno City College. While at Stanford, Meier played for head coach Mark Marquess, who went on to lead the United States to the Olympic gold medal. "He was tough, a real disciplinarian," Meier told the Chicago Tribune in 1988. "At that age we probably needed it. I went back to visit a few years later, and he was real nice. I thought, 'Is this the same guy?'" Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. As an outfielder, they normally play behind the six players located in the field. By convention, each of the nine defensive positions in baseball is numbered. The outfield positions are 7 (left field), 8 (center field) and 9 (right field). These numbers are shorthand designations useful in baseball scorekeeping and are not necessarily the same as the squad numbers worn on player uniforms. 1978 Major League Baseball Draft
In 1978, four American baseball players were promoted from amateur baseball to the major leagues, including Arizona State University third baseman Bob Horner, who was selected number one overall by the Atlanta Braves. Oakland High School pitchers Tim Conroy and Mike Morgan, and Brian Milner of Toronto also went directly to the big leagues. Raymond Alton Hayward (born April 27, 1961) is a former left-handed Major League Baseball starting pitcher who played from 1986 to 1988 for the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers.
