Dave Mackey
Dave (David) Mackey, born November 22, 1969, is an American ultra runner and adventure racer who lives in Boulder, Colorado. Mackey has set course records at many significant national ultra-distance trail running races, and spent several years adventure racing nationally and internationally. He is a physician assistant in emergency medicine. In 2011, Mackey won the Montrail Cup, which he also won in 2004. He won the Ultrarunning Magazine North American Ultrarunner of the Year in 2011, and was runner-up in 2004. He won the USA Track and Field Ultrarunner of the Year in 2004 and in 2005, and also has won several USATF national trail running titles at three different distances: 50K, 50 mile, and 100 kilometers. In running from one side of the Grand Canyon and back, also known as the rim-to-rim-to-rim (R2R2R), Mackey set a former record of 6:59:57. The current record is held by Jim Walmsley. The Miwok 100K Trail Race is a long ultramarathon that takes place annually in southern Marin County, California, typically on the first Saturday of May. The race starts and ends in the town of Stinson Beach. Almost all of the course is on fire roads and single-track trails, first to the south of Stinson Beach and then to the north. Mountain Masochist Trail Run
The Mountain Masochist Trail Run (MMTR50) is a ultramarathon that winds its way through the Blue Ridge Mountains. The course begins at the James River Visitor Center; runners cover a short out-and-back section on the Blue Ridge Parkway before completing a few short miles of road. The course then meanders northward over various dirt and gravel roads in the National Forest before runners have to negotiate the second half of the course. Leaving Long Mountain aid station, the second half includes dirt and old logging roads as well as several miles of single-track trail. Many say the race is just beginning when you leave Long Mountain. Upon reaching the last aid station at Porters Ridge, runners course downhill for 2.9 miles toward the finish in Montebello. The Zane Grey Highline Trail 50 mile Endurance Run, known commonly as the Zane Grey 50, is a 50-mile (80 km) ultramarathon that takes place on the Highline Trail in the Tonto National Forest just below the Mogollon Rim in central Arizona. The race is typically held on the 4th Saturday in April. The race starts at the Pine Trail head on the far west end of the Highline Trail, just south of the Town of Pine, Arizona. The race travels east and finishes at the 260 Trailhead, just east of the town of Christopher Creek. Runners climb cumulative total of over 10,000 feet (3048m) and descend a total of over 9000 feet (2743m). The actual distance is closer to 55 miles. The American River 50 Mile Endurance Run, or AR50, is the second largest 50-mile (80.47 kilometer) ultramarathon beginning in Sacramento, California and ending in Auburn, California. The event is held annually in April. For most of the first , the course follows a bike path that runs along the American River, then switches to trails for the remainder of the race. Bear Peak (Boulder County, Colorado)
Bear Peak is a mountain summit in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The peak is located in Boulder Mountain Park, south-southwest ( bearing 206°) of downtown Boulder in Boulder County, Colorado, United States. Mountain Bear Peak is generally considered to be at the southern end of Boulder's Flatirons range, rock formations on the westernmost part of the city. The hike to the top of Bear Peak is a popular activity. In addition to hiking, Bear Peak has at least three rock climbing formations directly adjacent — The Slab, The Goose, and Seal Rock. These formations have rock climbs ranging from 5.2 (easy) to 5.13 (quite difficult). On June 26, 2012, the Flagstaff Fire erupted and burned an upper section of Bear Peak.
